for Mr. E. 1. Smith, Sr-, who died
Monday night after an illness of
several months. Dr. E. H. Hill
conducted the services and inter
ment was in Oconee cemetery.
Mr. Smith was on of the pio
neer citlsens of the county, born
and <reared In Athens where he
lived all his life. He was honored
by his fellow townsmen and by
the voters of Clarke' county by
being twice elected alderman,
mayor and county treasurer. He
also a prominent businessman
of the babies will be examined as
friends in this section of the state.
Pallbearers were Messrs. How
ard Scott, Alexander Scudder, Jul
ius Talmndge, T. W. Baxter,-O- A-
Dozier and J. W. Barnett. ^ Hon
orary pallbearers were the elders
and deacons of the First Presby
terian church, trustees of Oconee
