There Was a Hot Time in the'Old Town This
Night!
Maybe Princeton University was so hot with indignation at its
recent football defeat by the Navy that it jnst burst ino flame. Any
way, aa his specacular photo shows, there was a hot time in the old
town of Princeton, N. J., this night, when fire destroyed part of Green
Hail of Science. Students, giving three cheers and a tiger, charged
into the building and rescued bmlu and records.

Mr. Louis Elmer Bates, aged 33,
veteran of the World war and of
the Mexican border trouble, died
at hifi residence, 287 Cemetery
Street, Friday morning at 10:20
o’clock after cn illness of twelve
months.
Mr. Bates was born in Oconee
county and had lived in Athens for
fifteen years. He wus a member
of the Woodmen of the World and
is survived by his widow, Mrs.
Qu^sie Bates; "two daughters,
Misses Myttle and Jennett; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bates
three sisters, Mrs. Russ Fuller,
Mrs. S.dncy Fuller and Mrs. Min
nie Bates; three brothers, Messrs.
H. A. Bfttea of the Athens Fire
Department, W. H. Batet., Jr., and
J. G. Bates, all of Athens.

pastor of the West End Baptist
Church, assisted by Dr. E. L. Hill,

Mr. Bates was well known in
Athens where he had spent many
years, and he leaves a host of
friends who will mourn his death.
