When the nation entered the war, Mrs. Hoover took
up the task of providing adequate lodgings for the
women workers in Washington. Many houses were re
modeled into suitable living quarters with recreational
facilities, under her direction. She was constantly
helping Hoover to round out and complete his task as
food administrator.

King George V for his work on
the Oxford English dictionary. |
Among the expressions in every'
day usage, which Sir William will
list, are “electioneering,” “to catch

“backwoods.”
Professor Craigie’s original

From its seventeenth century

the aid of volunteer readers. |

force of 90,000 000 horsepower and

Gra.chen’s ray is produced by
'an electrical current of 160,000

an anode and two cathodes. The
ray is the product of a combina

The purpose of the ray, accord

His present ray 1s sia w «ill

“for it would destroy everything
in the laboratory.”
