‘10-YARD’ CLARK
BEST IN ROCKIES;
GOOD AT PASSING
DENVER, Colo. — (JP) — For
consistency, game in and game
out. the record of Earl “Dutch”
Clark, Colorado College All-Am
erican quarterback, is without
parallel in the Rocky mountain
region.
Clark, records for all but the
final game show, gained more
than 10 yards every time he car
ried the '.all this year.
Colorado college scored more
points than any team ia the
Rocky Mountain conference
1928, but the points scored
against it showei that its line
also was one of the weakest
(he Rockies. Still, despite a weak
line, Clark in seven conference
games gained 1,261 yards from
scrmsaegmwklf) ..UN ip ,.NU
scrimmage in the 125 times
carr ed the ball—an average of
10.08 yards.
Clark wj»s on the throwing end
of a highly-developed parsing
game and was father directly or
indirectly responsible for all but
12 of the 190 points made by his
team, muk ng this record all the
more remarkable.

The Colonizer
of the World
Earth’s solid shores are ringed about by the
Seven Seas, whose waves are" furrowed into beaten
highways by the keels of pigmy man. Not so many
years ago these trails led to but few places where
tho white man might land safely.
Dotting the seas were islands, gems of green in
the midst of the uncharted blue. The helpless ship,
short of water, would at times dare a landing.
Sometimes the natives waved friendly greetings.
Then there were ships who sailed away from
gleaming shores with towering flames, celebrating
the death of the white man foolhardy enough to
land on them.
As the age of the world goes, this was but yester-
iday. Yet today this condition is only a memory,
conserved by the written pago or alive in olden sail
ors who gather in comfortable chairs to discuss the
other years.
Dazzling white beaches, the encircling chain of
snowy surf setting off the emerald of the palms
waving in the breeze of. the Southern Seas, still
hold their promise of romance, their sense of en
hancement; but the fear of danger, the dread e*
disaster is gone. Past the reefs, within the still
lagoon, the uncivilized no longer awaits the unwary
landing.
Instead there are iron sheds among the thached
huts'of the natives. There are wharves out into the
lagoon. There are the white men awaiting the mail
news from home, and their supplies. And one of
the buildings of these far-flung colonies has a spec
ial slgnifl Icance to all the rest of the world.
It is the Church.
Perhaps it is only the residence of the missidliary
hut it ia the Church as a symbol of religion. To
those ; who understand, it is the symbol of the power
that made the other buildings possible, that made
secure the men who live among the savages and
receive with safe welcome the ships that ply the
seas.
The Church has colonized these ’ far-flung
islands, has made possible civilized life on the
continents that fringe the world.
Where the explorer has gone the missionary h«s
been at hia side or led the way. The explorer re
turns and seeks new fields. The missionary has
stayed to bring light«/ the dark places, sight to tnc
unseeing, knowledge to the ignorant; secure in the
knowledge that he may stay, for wherever the ex
plorer may seek there will be more and more mis
sionaries to go with him.
And behind the missionary is the Church Sup
porting him, just as before him is the Church, show
ing him the way. He is encompassed about.
Are you a part of the organization which is mak
ing the world a comfortable habitation from end
toendf
Are you helping, to spread the carpet of civiliza
tion beyond the present fringe.
You enjoy the results, do you help provide the
Weens?
Go to Church.
