ABSOLUTELY NEW FEATURE TO TOP THE
PALACE BILL THIS WEEK; PROGRAMS OF
POPULAR PICTURES AND STARS COMING
George Bancroft and Mary!
Astor are cominy to the Palace
theatre Monday and Tuesday in
an unusual picture and maybe
the feminine patrons of the the
atre will not agree with the title,
which is “Ladies Love Brutes”.
This is absolutely something new
in the manner of a love drama
and the patrons of the Palace
will be interested in the way the
production is staged and acted. A
tip, do not miss this one,
A new price scale has been
instituted by the Palace. The
prevailing prices are 10 and
35 cents up to 6 i the after
noon ahd 25 and 50 cents at
night, except on Saturday’s
when the prices all day ave
10 and 40 cents.
Here’s a good one for Wednes
day! Sue Carroll, El Brendel and
Jack Mulhall in that daring. daz
zling comedy, “The Golden Calf”.
This is an all-talking musical
comedy and has just closed an
unprecedented week in Atlarta
where it was the hit of the town.
Yjou’d be surprised at just what
tixis golden calf thing is. :
And for Thursday and Fri
day what have we? Just a
galaxy of stars in the first
musical comedy that has
been staged out of doors.

NEW YORK—(AP)— The cu

earnings statements, drooping
commodity prices and a decline in
share quotations since early April
overflowed late this week into a
powerful wave of liquidation on
the stock markets.
Prices melted away rapidly on
Friday and again on Saturday as
many professional operators turn
ed decidedly bearish and pools li

that several leading shares on the
New York stock exchange made
some of the widest declines since
ecarly last December. .
COTTON LOWER
NEW YORK— (AP) — Cotton

end liquidation combined with
some southern and local selling on
reports of continued favorable
weather for the coming crop, rels

the weakness in the stock market.
May sold off to 16.19 and the new
October contract to 14.39. The
general market ‘closed barely

fiftieth anniversary was cele

At the time of his death he was

For wyears he was a principel

As head of King-Hodgson

of his life in building up a pros

one of the most lucrative mercan

known.
Business Career
This was wrecked by the hard
times that have hovered ovar this
region for the last ten years.
Mr. Hodgson and his two
brothers, E. R. Sr. and A. H.
’Hodgson, had a most remarkable
and beautiful partnership agree
‘ment that lasted as long as the
three lived. Under the terms of
this partnership either brother
could engage in any kind and as
many kinds of business as he
chose. At the end of the year each
reported the year's transactions.
The results, whether vprofit or
loss, were entered in what they
called “The Pool”. The losses
were shared equally, Do matter
by whom incurred, the profits
were shared equally no matter by
‘whom earned. i :
In 1897 the lecislature created
the Board of Commissioners of
Poads ard Revenues of Clarke
County.
The 71irst commissioners were
elected by the grand jury at the
April term, 1898, of Clarke Su

A vacancy occurred by resig
nation and Mr. Hodgson was
elected to fill it on the 13th of
December, 1898, With one brief
intermission he continued as a
member of the board until his
death, much of the time being its
chairman. The building of the
courthouse was one of the maio:
enterprises during his admfinis.

He took great pride in this of
