Prohibition Not
Likely to Get
Test in Senate
WASHINGTON. —(AP)— Al
though prohibition discussions
continued unabated in congres
sional circles there is now but
little prospect for a definite sen
ate battle on this issue at the
present session,
This was the general opinion on
Capitol hill today following the
announcement of Senator Blaine,
independent - republican, Wiscon
sin, that he would not urge the
consideration of his resolution for
the repeal of the eighteenth
amendment until there is an op
po-tunity for hearings.
When the measure was intro
duced several months ago, dry
leaders expressed a willingness to
permit it to come to a vote. It
was expected this woud bring the
first direct showdown on the pro
hibition issue in several years.
- Blaine said he would have no
time for hearings before adjourn
ment because of other pressing
duties. He is planning, however,
to go ahead with the measure
‘when congress convenes next De.

The senate lobby committee i 3
preparing to bring its investiga
tion or organizations prominently
identified with the wet-dry issue
to an early conclusion. Bishop
James Cannon of the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South, and the
head of its temperance board, will
be examined next Tuesday and at
the end of his testimony, Chai:-
man Caraway plans to adjourr
the hearings.
