CHEESE NURSE
LONDON.~~Cheese making is
an industry which requires much
time and attention in England.
One manufacturer has a special
underground cellar where, in a
‘draught-proof room, an attendant
is always on watch to see that
the temperature never varies
from 60 degrees. Some cheeses,
when left in a draught, will erack
from top to bottom, and for this
reason they are guaded care
fully. i
BOBBY RESTS IN
PARIS AS PRESS
ACCLAIMS FEAT
LONDON.—(AP)--Bobhy Jones,
who Saturday won the British
amateur golf championship, was in
Paris Monday intent, as he said,
upon doing ‘“some hard resting”
prior to return here and an at
tempt to take the British opcn
championship the middle of the
month. He has won the British
open twice before.
Meanwhile the British press ac
claimed his feat at St. Andrews,
and there was no question but
that his victory was more popu
lar, after his many efforts at the
British golf c¢rown, than would
have been that of any other for
eigner. Praise in some of the pa
pers extended even liggyvond the
sporting pages onto the editorial
columns. «
The Daily Express, however,
summed up the situation saying:
“If the last of our male champion
ships was to leave this country
there can be no more popular win
ner.” Such editorial cartoons as
“A Worthy Champion” and “The
Greatest Golfer” are good speci
mens of the comment on Bobby
and his feat. i

Of Health Review
Article Of Board
An a-ticle discussing Fair
haven, the Clarke county Tuber
culosis Sanitarium, is cobtained
in the current issue of “Georgia’s
Health”, published by the State
Board of Health.
The article follows:
“FAIRHAVEN
“Just beyond the city limits of
Athens wou may cee from the
highway a beautiful st ucture in
stucco that overlooks a pine-cov
ered: willside. The setting would
suggest to the least imaginative
a place of repose and content.
ment where the concerrs of a
busy world might be easily for
gotten. This pleasing picture has
behind it the story of a dream
that came trues
“A group of Clarke county citi
zens organized a Tuberculosis As
sociation and in 1925 succeeded in
launching plans for a Tuberculos
is Sanatorium. Fifty thousand
dollars was raised by bond issue,
which sum was sufficient to pur
chase grounds, build ard equip a
twenty-eight bed sanatorium with
a nurses’ cottage. A
“In January 1926 the building
was ready for occupancy under
the disection of the Board of
County Commissiorers. For three
vears the institution continued
under this maragement and des
pite excellent administration and
facilities for treatment, the place
was not liberally pat-onized. The
lack of response was apparently
due to absence in the county of
a strong sentiment favoring sab.
atorium treatment for tubercu:
losis o
“In January 1929 the Clarke
County Tuberculosis Association
took over the active management
of the institution. Fairhaven
Sanatorium (to give its official
name) took on a mew lease of life
with a radical change in policy.
Intended from the first as an in
stitution for home folks, the new
administration let it be known
that the place was open to pati
ent« from outside points and that
the rates were the same to all.
The happy result has been that
the sanatorium was liberally pat
ronized during the year and the
books show a small though satis
factory balance on the right side
of the ledger. .
“The financial standing of
'Fairhaven is very creditable in
view of its limited income from:
. “1, Fees of patients.
“9 Proceeds of the Christmas
Seal sale. 5
“3. County aid of one doHar
per day for indigent county pa
tients. (This has been raised to
$1.25 per day for 1930.)
“Fairhaven has from the first
been under the direction of an
Athens physician who specializes
in pulmonary diseases. Patients,
however, may have their own
physician if they so desire, but
few have ever called this provisi
ol 'into operation. - .. ©
{“The affairs of the institution
being now in so satisfactory a
condition, the management has
recently increased the capacit
from. 28 to 36 beds.
“Patients coming to Fairhaven
have been pleased to find on dis
charg~ that the stipulated fees
covered every serviee the institu
tion has to offer; no extras are
added to the bills. oy
“The Clarke County Tubercu
losis Association in its financial
atatement for 1929, firds the ner
canita cot per day to be $2.25.
In view of the high type ser
vice given, this rate bespeaks ef
ficient management and com
nares favorably with other insti
tutions of its kind.
‘“That earnest group who pio
nee-ed it, dreamed of a mnotable
contribution toward community
betterment. Over there on a
beautiful hillside is the literal
conerete eviderce of their dream
come . true.”
