High School er
Master? “King” |
Never Chooses
By M. L. ST. JOHN
Desert school or master? This
was the question put before King,
10-year old dog of Mr. and Mrs.
T. A. Grimes. Twice he deserted
his masters. The third time would
be definite, but bhefore he could
answer, . . ~ 4
In 1922.23, King began attend
ing Athens High school daily with
Allan Grimes. Following Allan’s
graduation, he continued at school
with Richard. Richard left, and
King had been going to school
with Emily.
During this time the dog was a
regular attendant at the Central
Presbyterian church. Emily,
youngest of the Grmies children,
was to graduate this year. King
had become the pet of hundreds of
boys and girls who have been stu- |
nents during the past ten years. |
The faculty loved King. Would
King trail the path to high school
alone when the last Grimes was
gone, or would he follow his mas
ters?
. - . The answer this time
would be definite. King never de
serted his alma mater, He was
poisoned recently.

Beech-Haven Is
~ Open This Week
To Help School
No mountain school is of great
er interest to Athenians than the
Rabun Gap-Nacooch ¢ school at
Rabun Gap.
Prince Hodgson in his life time
was intensely interested and no
man did as much for the school
as did Mr, Hodgson. It was his
enthusiasm and the splendid
backing that he gave Mr. Ritchie
lwho started the school, that led
him to establish such a great
school. It is unique in its rota
tion system of farming whereby
families are brought from their
mountain homes and the parents
‘are able to farm and make a
living while the entire family se
cure their education at the school.
A few years _aio the Nacoochee
Institute under the splendid lead
ership of Rev. John K. Coit was
consolidated with Rabun Gap and
thus one of the most effective
christian schools in the mountains
is “cal'tf'lng on” today.
Athenians may assist this
school this week by driving owt to
Beech Haven any afternoon this
week between 5 and 7 o’clack. An
admission of 25 cents is charged
all of which goes to assist this
worthy school in securing some
much needed equipment.—B. H.
tion has been let to Hentz, Adler
and Schultz of Atlanta.
The new. dormitory will be built
during the summer and it is ex
pected that it will be ready for
occupancy by next fall. The funds
for its construction will be fur
nished from the Brown fund, the
courts and descendants of the
donor of the fund, Joseph M.
Brown, having consented to such
use of part of the corpus of the
fund which now amounts to more
than $300,000.

It pours... profit
No lumps, no hard spots—just easy
dlowing fertilizer that passes evenly
through the drill: that’s V-C. But
good mechanieal coadition is not
enough, in V.C. “How does it pour?”
is less important than “What does it
pour?” You ean take bosh answers
for granted. V-C pours easily, and
V-C pours profit.
The size of the yield per acre
determines the unit cost of
growing each bushel or bale or
pound.—T ke Fertilizer Review.
““Agriculture stands on solid founda
tions that have been carefully laid dur
ing a long period of enforced economy.”
—Renick W. Dunlap, Asst. Secy. of
Agriculture.
“We handle some brands through
friendship or other causes, but we
handle V-C fertilizers because our farm
er friends want these goods. Of all the
brands, V-C fertilizers are best known
and liked. They sell wiih least effort,
and they give good results.”—Dor
chester Cotion oil Co., St. George, S. C.
