acre of cabbage, in addition to
her canning, gardening and tree
planting. In her third year she
was electod presfdent of the
girls’ ciub in her community and,
on the side, cléared $296.96 on a
half.acre of cabbage. That year
she set out twelve peach trees, a
half-acre of strawberries, and
canned about 700 quarts of fruits
and vegetables. At the fair that
year she won several cash prizes
and a Camp Wilking scholarship.
The next year she did not at
tend camp, due to her sistcr Elsie
being away at camp and illness
of relatives. She stayed home
and kept house.
The fourth year finds Miss
Todd netting $399.43 on an acre
of cabbage, canning another 700
quarts of fruits and vegetablss,
planting more strawberries and
trees, cooking and sewing and
beginning a grape vineyard. In
her spare tilne she helped the
county home demonstration ageat
teach the other girls to can. The
county agent at that time was
the -late Mrs. Annie Mae Wood
Bryant, and Miss Todd says that
she will never forget how she in
spired the club girls. Miss Ruyby
Thompson is the present demou

been an inspiration to the Clarke
club girls. In her seventh and
eighth years as a club girl Miss'
Todd began realizing on the time
and etrorts she had spent in
planting a grape vineyard, fruit
trees as well as her vegetable
garden .
In 1928 she won a scholarship,

Todd has built up a club of girls
and women from a mere handful
to 400 girls and 200 women.
At the annual camp in Canton,
June 6 to 9, 150 girls were in at.

have been held in the county in
which 93 girls took part, and
were the recipients of SSO in casb

in Ball Ground, Woodstock and
Canton, were attended by a large
number of people who marveled at
the beauntiful frocks at -a price
ranging from 40 cents to $1.75.

Heavy Cotton Yields
.
Mean Low-Unit Costs
The rock bottom cost of produc
inz a pound of seed cotton last year
was probably 2'i cents, At least,
that is what it cost the winners of |
cotton-growing contests in mine
Southern States.
An inspection of their records
shows that every one of the win
ners, 22 in all, side-dressed their
crop. The average application was 1
200 pounds of Chilean nitrate per
acre, mpplied 45 days after planting,
it is sometimes said that while
the winners of crop-growing con
tests make high acre yields, their |
cost of unit production is abnormal- '
Iy high. This is far from being the
case. In fact, a 8 shown by these'
records, the cost of growing ;‘
pound of cotton was reduced as the
yield was increased. & .. [
