Surgical Problems
Are Discussed at
Physician’s Clinic
Dr. H. M. Michel of Augusta
presided yesterday at the exten.
sion medical course being held
this week in the court house.
The meeting was given over to
the consideration of surgical
problems, Dr, Michel opening
the discussion with a resume of
surgical progress and its present
status in Europe and America. He
dealt parteiularly with that
branch of surgery which is con
cerned with diseases of the
bones. The surgical treatment of
these condgions and their inei
dent deformities received due
consideration. >
Tubereunlosis of the hone is not
rare, either here or elsewhere,
When this disease involves the
bony “Structure of the body, it is
frequently the hip joint that is
attacked. These cases in their
early stages are apt to be put
down as rheumatism. When the
true condition is recognized and
suitably treated, results may be
expected, though the patient with
a tyberculous hip joint need not
look for arapid cure.
The various surgical methods
for relief of bone T. B. were
taken up and the salient features
of each noted. A general discus.
sion of the subject was entered
into by those present and several
case histories reviewed.
The final session of the exten.
sion course which is being held
today, will be under the charge
of Dr. Stewart R. Roberts of
Atlanta. ~
