Customs Of France
Discussed At Negro
Summer School Here
‘An address on France by Cam
illa Howard, a graduate of Ath
ens High and Industrial sehoo),
and Spellman college of Atlanta,
who studied in France last sym
mer, was the feature of the cha
pel services of the Summer
School for Colored Teachers,
' The speaker attended Grenabie
‘college in France, and had an
~opportigity to note the differen
ces between American and French
customs. She gave a deseription
of city life of the French people,
their outdoor life, their indul
gence in light wines, their seri
ousness, their courtesy.
A description of the education
al system of France was also
given. She said that in French
universities the lecture system :s
used exclusively, the students
never being called upon to recite.
At the end of the course studenis
are required to take examinations,
and the names of those failing
are posted in public.
“It is this publicity that keeps
all students working to their ca
pacity,” she said.
