Georgia’'s Bulldogs, 34 stron;:,l
sped on ‘toward Columbus Friday
afternoon, confident, despite an |
unusually large “number of injur
des, that they will give the titlp-l
bound Aldburn Plainsmen a real |
pattle in he Electric City Satur‘l
day afternoon. - i
Coach Harry Mehre saw his 34:
hopefuls aboard the Seaboard at |
9.80 Friday afternoon, after a light |
workout late Friday morning, and |
prepared to take things easy with i
them until Columbus _is rea(‘h(*di
Friday night at 7:30. '
Four players will not be able |
to play against the Tigers because |
of injuries and four others will'
not be able to play up to their us- |
ual standard on account of injur- f
ies or sickness. [
Tom Perkinson, center, and |
Dick Maxwell, Ifet end, the latter |
jost for the rest of the smsun,l
were not even carried on the trip. l
Big Ed Davis, tackle stalwart, and
Lloyd Gilmore, fullback, are defi
nitely out but will make the trip.
Davis has been sick all week and
under ecare of a physician. He‘
has not praeticed a whit.
Buck Chapman, left halfback,
will play, but Buck is just recov
ering from a cold and stands no
chance to be at his best Saturday.
Vase McWhorter,. center, is being
bothered with an ankle injury;
Graham Batchelor, right end, is',
handicapped with an injured wrist,
and John Brown, guard, is handi- ]
capped with an arm injury.
. Some of the . lagt named erip
ples may be :started by Coach
Mehre because they will be need- |
-ed at least during part of the|
_game and must be used despite 4
their handicaps. Batchelor, Chap- |
¥man and McWhorter may be |
_the opening lineup, but Brown '
~will give way to Billy - Hazlehurst. |
«Leroy Moorehead will likely be at |
" the other guard; John. West and
| Charlie Opper at the. tackler.. |
_Freddie Miller at left, ond; Jars .
{Griffith at quarterbacic. Chamyan 8

A final scrimmage against Au- !,
gburn plays ~ was Eiven the Bull-|
. dogs Thursday afternoon, with the |
‘Red Devils furnishing the oppual-\
‘tion. The 'Devils, already battered
. for three days, were inclined to
gtake things easy so the varsity
~had an gasier time than ual.
- Even at that Cocah Harry Mehre
‘ found plenty of mistakes to tor
“rect during the afterncon and sev
‘eral times a Red Devil lineman
came to life and broke through.
and nabbed . varsity ball carriers’
for losses or no gain.
The afternoon’s ,work was fin
“ jshed with a snappy offensive
_gerimmage, -in which practically
every member .of the first and
_sceond teams: were used, ~ Charxlie
Jdacobson and Roy Collier were
elevated from the Red Deyll renks
and displayed their wares with
the varsity. Both are flankmen.
Hut Parks, guard, was alio ,_ele-,
vated from the 'Devil ranks for a |
crack at his old teammates. l
Those making the trip are:

Auburn Perfects
Passes For Use

Against Georzia
=t O
ATLANTA, GA,, —(#— Auburn,
with' two of its “erack tullbacks on
the casualty list, is devoting its at
tention to perfecting a passing at
tack to supplant line-smashing
tactics in its make or break game
with Georgia at Columbus, Ga.,
Saturday. -
Coach Chet Wynne worked his
squad with extreme caution Thurs-
Gay to guard against any. further
injuries, Scrimmages- was cancellea
Wednesday and the coaching staft
has spent long hours on the passing
game of the backs. *
The aerial attack is . revolving
about Captain Hitchcock, Casey
Kimbrell. Firpo Phipps, and a young
ster named Moreys, alternating in
flipping passes to Senn, i'enion,
Ariail and Rogers.
Fullack Truck Talley and S.e:-
ling Dupree are on the injured list
and trainers seé little hope they
will get into the game Saturday.
This leaves only Tom Brown te @o
the line plunging fer thePlainsmen.
Georgia's strong line defense 1
causing Wynne lots of worry ana
hence the aeriol strategy.
