MARGIN OVER NATIONAL LEAGUE

By HERBERT W. BARKER
Associated Press Sports Writer
NEW YORK.—(®)—With only a
week more to go, the American
league boasts a six-game margin
over the National in 50 inter-lea
gue exhibition games this spring.
A tabulation of results Tuesday
thowed 28 victories for the Ameri
¢éan league against 22 for the Na
tional. A score more games re
main before the clubg get down to
the serious business of deciding
the major league pennant races
and the National league may suc
@eed in lovlerhauling thede rivals
frem the junior circuit.
The New York Yankees, Boston
Red Sox and Detroit Tigers have
been the principal winners for the
American league. The worlad
champion Yankees have won eight
games out of 12 from National
league rivalg while the Red Sox
and Tigers each have won four
and dropped two.
Not. one c¢lub in John Arnold
Heydler's loop has succdeded in
getting better than an even break
against the American league al
though feur of them, the Cubs,
Pirates, Dodgers and Giants, have
amassed .500 averages.
The Philadelphia Athletics have
lost the most games in the inter
league series, eight, ° but offset
that with seven vietories, more
than any other club except thHe
Yankees.
In the tabulation of all major
league results whether inter or in
tra-league, Cleveland’s Indians re
main the only undefeated team.
The Indians chalked up victories
over Washington in the only twao
gameg they've played against ma
jor league opposition. The New
York Giants have won the most
games of this class, 10, while the
Boston Braves have lost the most
It~
Taking into account all games,
whether involving major or minor
league opponents, Detroit has the
best record with 11 wvictories and
two defeats. The St. L.ouis Browns
with 10 and 3 and Cleveland with
13 and 4 stand second and third
respectively.
