Nelle Gassette in a play reading
of “Beyond The Horizon” by Eu
gene O'Neill at eight o'clock Fri
day evening at the Pound auditori
um.

recognized ‘as’ the leading Ameri
can dramatist—a position he has
never since relinquished.)

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH
PHILATHEA CLASS MEETS
The regular business meeting of
the Philathea class of the First
Christian church was held April 3
at the home of Misses Ruby, Ina
and Una Rumsey on the 'Tallesee
road.
. The meeting was opened with
lthe devotional by Miss Ola Glenn
' Eishop. The minutes were read
}by the secretary, Miss Dorothy
Wright. The following made re
ports: Miss Helen Parr, chaiyman
of the membership committee; Miss
Eugenia Whitehead, chairman of
the Devotional committee; Mrs.
R. A. Brown, chairman of the
Welfare comrnittee; Miss Polly
Bowden, chairman of the Social
committee,
Prizes were awarded to the
group leaders in a recent contest.
The leaders . were Misses Polly
Bowden and Dorothy ‘Wright.
The class decided to have a
contest. Attendance counts one
point, study lesson, one; visitor,
one; and new member, five points,

The May meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. R. A. Brown,

Among the many beautiful ex
hibits of the Athens schools, one
of the most interesting is the one
put on by the Junior High girls,
under the skillful direction of Mrs.
W. C. Davis, head of the Domestic
science department. The sewing
class of the Sixth grade have an
array of their work in plain and
fancy sewing. From kitchen tow
€ls to exquisite embroidered tow
els, aprons and attractive print
dresses, button holes, etc.
The work is most creditable and
reflects the splendid training of
each student under Mrs. Davis,
noted for her artistry in both
sewing and cooking, and truly the
same can be said of the latter for
the display put on by Janet Du-
Bose, Louise Chandler, and Rene
Tuck, was outstanding, in the min
iature table set with a well balan
ced diet from bouillon to cup cus
