commemorates the freeing of the
Israelites from the bondage in
' Egypt, and symbols used during
the servicés preceding the meal of
the first night represent various
parts of the bondage and rescue,
During a period of one week, no
ieavened bread is eaten—only un
leaved bread, or matzohs, and un
leavened cakes. “The Last Sup
per” was a Seder. ‘
The Seder Monday night will be
given by Rabbi A. Shusterman.

EASTER PARTY
Another KEaster season is near
at hand and with it comes to the
children of Athens the annual
Faster party, given by Emmanuel
service league which assures all
that attend a good time.
This party will_be.held at the
Parish house on north Pope street
next Monday, April 17th at four
o'clock. Each child that attends
will receive an attractive hasket
filled with eggs. There will be
something entirely new thig year
for the children to come and see.

meet Tuesday evening at 6:30
o'clock at the Y. W. C. A. camp
with an Easter egg hunt and pic

are well known garden enthusiasts
and prominent in the association’s
activitie, and both have been
president of the Athens Garden
club, the oldest in the United
States.

Mrs. Matthews died Sunday
morning at her residence on Bar
rett street following an illlness of
two years. She was born in
Oglethorpe county, but had lived
in Athens for the past 356 years.
Survivors are two daughters:
Mrs. T. J. McDay, Eatonton, Ga,
and Miss Effie Matthews, Athens;
one son: E. O. Matthews, Athens;
and one sister: Mrs, Tissure Bar
ber, Madison county.
