when it crossed the Santa Fe railroaa
track. John Wilson’s house was
blown down and Mrs. Wilson was
killed, and a Mrs. Parker was fatally
Injured. Several other large and
strongly built houses were demolish
ed in the neighborhood. Proceeding
northward, the storm struck the new
thriving town of Chase, demolished
twenty out of twenty-six buildings in
the place, and throwing the ears from
the track. Mr. Read, the hotel keep
er, was killed, and his wife was fatal
ly injured. Another woman and child
were also killed.
A COMPANION CYCLONE.
At about the same time in the even
ing a small cyclone passed through
the eastern p*rt of the country, hut it
did but little damage. It was accom
panied by a variable water spout. In
some places the wind sucked nil the
water out of the wells. As the clouds
approached Chase It was in the shape
of a funnel, whistling and twisting
with tearful velocity. All the inhabi
touts of Chase were more or less in.
jured, but few escaping witilbut a hurt
of some kind. The people are living
in box cars, and many families are in
a destitute oouditiou.
