BANNER-WATCHMAN. A ’Tatkk.—Mr. Wm. LnMaster, of Jackson county, this year raised a po tato which measured 2,',. feet in length and was as large ns a man’s wrist. Pin You Ever.—Mr. Jordan El der, of Oconee county, left atourofllce Saturday a branch of a peach tree In full bloom and a ripe peach on the Tom Bkatisg Nkw York.—Col. Brown, the ultra theatre man gnv lot ol work yesterday, and lie stated that our urice* were lower than New York. He ought to know for he has liis-n in the business thirty-live years. Nkahi.v CiiMPLKTKD.—'The r store next to the Insurance olllce Is now being completed In handsome style. Mr. Joe Jacobs will occupy this store, and will huve one of the funciest drug stores in the south. Thk Vikciinia Tuiiacco Crop.— Advices from the leading counties of Virginia are to the effect that up to the middle of last week over one-half of the best crop ever kuowu is cut and housed. The crop generally is heavy and fully ripened. Advice Gratis.—Ask no woman her age. Never joke with a police man. Do not play chess with a widow. Never contradict a limn that stutters. l>e civil to rich uncles and aunts. Take your oldest hat to un evening party. Always sit next the carver, if you can; ut dinner. Robinson's Ri.no.—We call especl al attention to the advertisement of (.«• JO. Robinson & Co. This is the place to get all kinds of music and mu sical instruments. Mr. Robinson is well-known throughout our state and we would ail vise every one to give him an order as he will please you. Look at his advertisement and he will save you money by purchasing from him A Fai.sk Rkpoht.—The Speer men are bragging around town that they have accepted the bets promised in the Banner-Watchman and cannot get their money covered. The money is now on hand to cover not only Mr. Martin’s ne eeptance, but they will also accommo date Mr. T. A. Hodgson as soon as he notifies them that Ills money is In bank There is no sueli word as buck-down in the Candler vocabulary. Post Office Complaint.—Every day Ihere is complaint made to us that our subscribers do not get their papers. This has become exceed! ugly annoying to us, liut we know not where to turn to seek redress at this time. A gentleman showed u ‘•drop” letter which was put in the offlueotitlie Uth, and which he did not receive until the 18th (ye_‘-rday). The office stamp on t he envelope bears that date. Oh, My Back! That’s a common expres sion and has a world of meaning. How much suf fering is summed up in it The‘singular thing about it is, that pain in the back is occasioned by so many things. May be caused by kidney disease, liver com plaint, consumption, cold, rheumatism, dyspepsia, over work, nervous debility, &c. Whatever the cause, don’t neglect it Something is wrong and needs prompt attention. No medicine has yet been discovered that will so quickly and surely cure such diseases as Brown’s Iron Bitters, and it docs this by commencing at the foundation, and mak ing the blood pure and rich. Logans port, Ind. Dee. i, 1EE0. For a long time 1 have been a sufferer from stomach and kidney disease. My appetite was very poor and the very small amount 1 did cat disagreed with me. 1 was annoyed very much from non-r«tentian of urine. 1 tried many remedies with no success, until 1 used Brown's Iron Bitters. Since I used that my stomach does not bother me any. My appetite is simply immense. My kidney trouble is no more, and my general health is such, that 1 feci like a new man. After the use of Brown's Iron Bitten for one month, I have gained twenty pounds in weight. O. B. Sargent. Leading physicians and clergymen use and recom mend Brown’s Iron Bit ters. It has cured others suffering as you are, and it will cure you. Good N t:\vs.—We yesterday met a prominent merchant of Rnhti.i, and he say* there is no doubt ahount Ida county giving Candler a handsome majority. Mr. D. W. Meadow, of M ad‘son, says Mr. Speer is billed for three speeches in tnat comity, hut they will do him no good. A gentleman from Jackson sa\g be is confident of his county giving the oue-eyed plow hoy between 500 and 800 majority. In Franklin even the Speer men concede the county of Candler. Col. Candler’s friends are working like beavers and gaining n \> recruits every day. Death in OoLtfriHuiPt-We neg lofted last week to chronicle the death of Mr. R. S. Ayeoek, of Oglethorpe county, father of our esteemed city nmrshall. His wife died only a few days ago, and now he lias gone to join her in a better and happier clime. M r. Ayeoek was an old and very highly esteemed citizen of Oglethorpe county and served his day and genetution well, lie was an honest man. No better epitaph could l>e inscribed on his tomb, nor one more signilicaiit. We sympathise deeply with his doub ly stricken family.—J/u<fi«oai(i». BARRETT'S CIRCUS. This show has come and gone and we call safely say that every thing connected with the show was good. The animals were all in tlliecondition and seemed as if they were not want ing in good care and something to eat. The hare-hack riding cannot l>e ex celled. Mr. Willis Cobb, with liis dogs—and, in filet, Mr. Cobb seems to be leading genius in the show; he does every thing to make his patrons feel that they huve got the worth of their money. The best of order was pre served throughout the entertainment, and every ImmIv went uwuy satisfied. A Reu.onable Request. He had never told his love, their ac quaintance had been a very short one, mid when suddenly he had placed her arms around his neck and imprinted a kiss uiMiii her rosebud mouth, she was naturally startled. “Sir,” she said, “this is insufferable.” “Forgive me,” he cried. “I wus mad to act thus. I beseech you pardon me.” “No, I cun never forgive you, never. You have forfeited my friendship. You mdstleave ine at once and forever.” Vainly he plead; she was obdurate. So glaring an offense could not be con doned. And so he said he would. His whole life would be embittered, for he felt that her image could never be effaced from his heart. "i will go,” he said sadly, “but be fore I leave there is one boon that I fee) that I atn not unreasonable in desiring and expecting that you will grant this one little final favor.” “What is it?” she asked, gently, touched by his emotion. “Won’t you please take your arm from around my neck?”—Cincinnati Saturday Sight.
