Several new business houses are preparing to open in Athens soon. McDowell & Son intend building a fine brick store on their present site. Oglethorpe county had another wholesale jail delivery the other day. Tile torch-light procession in Madi son, Morgan countv, was a grand af fair. Messrs. O. II. Arnold and W. A. Stewart will open a new store in Lex ington soou. It will be a splendid firm. The Columbus Times states that Senator Barrow Is a "sou-in-law to the late Howell Cobb.’’ This is a mis take. Joe Fleming bought a $450 set of fur niture with his share of the liubbell fund. There are fewer accidents on the Georgia than any railroad in the south. A FREE MAN ONCE MORE. We motioned ear visitor to a seat, and after a few common-place remarks broached the subject of his escape. Without a moment’s hesitation he gave us the following account of his career from the time Chat he took leg bail ontil his voluntary surrender: "I had no idea of attempting an *-*- cape," he began, "when I was carried from the jail to the court-house, but hail determined to die sooner than go to the penitentiary.
