funeral of the late Prince Gortscha-
koff took place from the Russian
Chapel here yesterday. The phy-
sician who attended Gortschakoff
states that there were enough
grounds for suspecting that the
Prince-had been poisoned. The
evidence of the Prince’s mistress
and his valet confirms the suspi
cion. In his will made on his death
bed, the Prince requests the author
ities to suppress anv inquiry as to
whether or not he had been poison
ed.

A dispatch dated Atlanta, March
15, says young John Candler, who

last, is still holding his own and
may recover. Both legs are off’,

Uniontown, Pa., March 15.—
The town is still very much excited
over the acquittal of Dukes, the
murderer of Nut. The lamp-posts
this morning were decorated with
effigies of dukes.
The Republican State Central
Committee met and appointed a
special committee of ten with A. E.
Buck as chairman, to manage the
campaign for Governor. They will
hold no convention.
London is greatly excited over a
mysterious explosion in a govern
ment building, that was heard for
two miles, but fortunately no loss of
life. It shook the Parliament build
ing, and dynamite was doubtless
used.
At Roanoke, Va., two colored
men, Wm. Watkins and Jack Wal
dron, had a quarrel last evening in
front -of the house of Susan Mar
shall, a mulatto, of whom both were
jealous. Waldron fatally shot Wat
kins through the head and then
blew out his own brains.

It is said that i

tribes, and that the red men do not
let the black men know they are
free. This is perhaps baseless, but
it will be news to most people that
the Indian Territory has 30,000 ne
groes, former slaves of the Indians
and their children, who arc denied
all civil rights^ but such seems to be
the fact. They are not allowed to
vote, have no standing in court, ei
ther as parties, witnesses or jurors,
and-are even excluded from the
schools.
The Russian government have
proposed to the other powers that
an international detective force be
organized to cope with the An
archists, Nihilists, Fenians and So
cialists. France, Switzerland and
Austria have acquiesced in the pro
posal.

Only six and a half feet of water
remain to be pumped out of the Di
amond mine. The water now com
ing out must come directly from the
spot where the bodies lie, as it hears
an insufferable stench, rfnd the men
at the pumps are obliged occasion
ally to move away from its influ

A Boston woman, the daughter
of a once wealthy man, being
