Mrs. Willis Williford, a'widowed
tady of Athens, lost her youngest
brother at the hands of the Benders,
who figured so prominently in the
annals of crime a few years ago.
This young man lived in Kansas,
about 48 miles from the Benders,
and taking with him several hun
dred dollars in money, he started for
the frontiers with the intenbon of
speculating in land. He traveled
in a two-horse wagon, and it seems
that on the second day he reached
the cabin where the Benders ran
a hotel and sort of saloon. He was
absent so long that his family grew
uneasy and instituted a search for
him, but the missing man could not
be traced beyond his second day’s
travel. While the Benders were
looked upon as bad characters, noth
ing criminal was known against
them, and hence no suspicion of toul
play at their hands was entertained.

car, on which the millionaire Pierre
Lorillard, with a select party of
friends, were travelling, from de
