DIAMOND ROBBERY.
The Thieves Capture the Sparklers and Es-

There was one of the most daring
and successful lobberies at the fair

we ever heard of in this sec'ion
of the country.
Messrs. Collins & Pullen, jew

their jeweliy at the fair. They had
a large show case filled with all
kinds of jewelry, and in the centre
of ihtt show c >se was a magnificent
display of costly diamonds. The
show case was entirely cu' off from
the passway by a gate, and at the

nobody knew whero we had gone or why.
The night before we loft I wrote Mr. Owen
a little note telling him I could not marry
him—it would bo wrong. Then we came on
here. Gran’dad netted him a seine and I

“A picnic! I won’t need to go over the
bridge again after all,” said Bab to b r^elf
with satisfaction. The old man was bridge-

eyesight bad incapacitated him f *r the

the pps-age of every train, tramped over
the narrow line of plank with keen, watchful

“Now they are asking gran’dad about the

Louise clasp*! her hands together to still

brave—the danger might be averted.
A little old man who had come shuffling
around the corner of tho bouse raised his

a dazed, hulf-frightoned expression.
“Minnie, my little girl!” he faltered, hold

Tho old man shambled into tho house aud

“Ay, that’s Alinnie! She used to swing on
the little front gate o’ nights waiting for

tears of ul.l age burned in his faded eyes and
slipped slowly over the leathery cheeks.
“There is No. 14 coming down the bill; I

the faint sound of voices and far-off laugh
