INTRODUCED.
Atlanta, Not. 20.—[Special.]—Gen.
Alfred H. Colquitt Has been re-elected
United States Senator from Georgia,
with only two opposing rotes.
The friends of Henry \V. Grady had
worked mightily to obtain a recognition
of his candidacy, and it was thought,
that, at least, he would recei to 20 or 30
complimentary ballots.
As soon as the legislature had as
sembled and the chaplain had prayed,
the roll was called and the journal
read.
By 11:30 the galleries were crowded,
nil seats were occupied and a line of
spectators standing up against the wall
A number of ladies were present, and all
gentlemen entitled to the privileges of
the floor, were in the hall of representa
tives. The members were out in force.
At 12 o’clock Speaker Clay announced
that the hour had arrived for the elec
tion of a Senator.
Mr. R. L. Berner, of Monroe, nominat
ed Gen. Alfred H. Colquitt. There were
no other nominations, and the roll was
called. The result was as follows:
Colquitt, 158; Darnell 1.
In the Senate Uen. Colquitt’s election
was as sweeping as in the House. Only
one vote was cast against him, Mr. David
Garen, of the 41st, voting for S. A. Dar
nell. Mr. Bradwell, of the 2nd, nomin
a:ed Gen. Alfred H. Colquitt The
nomination was seconded by Senator
Whitfield, of the 20th. There was no
other nomination, and Gen. Colquitt re
ceived the election in the Senate. As
in the House, the Gmdy boomlet came
to naught His name was not mention
ed, and not a vote was cast for him!
Every reference to Colquitt's position
on the tariff, made in the Senate or
House, was vociferously applauded, and
the Georgia Legislature showed, by its
appreciation of the claims put forth for
Colquitt by the speakers, nominating and
seconding him, that he represented the
true democratic principles of tariff re
form, that it was in harmony with the
sentiments of Senator Colquitt.
The Journal, Colquitt’s organ, com
menting upon the result, says:
“The re-election oi Senator Colquitt
was not only in faithiul response to the
verdict of the people of Georgia in the
legislative, congressional and presiden
tial elections, but it will convey an as
surance to democrats of other states that
Georgia stands steadfastly by the prin
ciple and policy upon which the party
made its last national contest, and'upon
which it will continue the fight with the
protectionists, the monopolists and trusts
that have now acquired such great
power, and are using it so arbitrarily
and selfishly for the oppression of the
people.
Tho Verdict Unanimous.
W. D. Suit, Druggist, Bippus,
Ind., testifies: “I can recommend
Electric Bitters as the very best
lemedy. Every bottle sold has
given relief in every case. One
man took six bottles, and was cured
of Rheumatism of io years stand
ing.” Abraham Hare, druggist,
liellville, Ohio, affirms: “The best
selling medicine I have ever hand
led in my 20 years’ experience, is
Electric Bitters.” Thousands of |
otheis have added their testimony
so that the verdict is unanimous
that Electric Bitters does cure all
diseases of the Liver, Kidneys or
Blood. Only a half dollar a bottle

There are many advantages in the new

may be more readily emptied. Then the

like to know for what purpose it was
formed. Is there any honor attached

on these questions. It was thought when
they were appointed that it was for the
purpose of considering the question of
calling a primary election for every
office to be voted for by the people.
Primary elections have been the salva

balance of : the State. If primaries suit]

Ip stopping and starting tho boat tho

screw. Tho great engine working the
walking beam cannot be easily handled
for this purpose, while tho two screws
aft and stern on one shaft may readily
be reversed by the inverted compound
engines. The new boat will work more
steadily and without too noise of toe
