The broad, low, top buggy, has been purchased by Dr. Price, of Oconee. The beautiful surrey, it Is understood, will be the property of Lieut Fred Hodgson, of Dahlonega. The beautiful dairy wagon wa> built for Mr. C. 2). McKio, of Holly Dale. An interesting feature is the ingenious barn model, made by Mr. Bill Moore, of Oglethorpe. livb stock. The dis j play of Hodgson Brothers is colotsa! and cirnpletc. This hoqse always builds solidly and their pyramids of flour, hams, • tobacco boxes and staple articles is a fit J ting monument for the house which does a million dollar business in Northeast Georgia. Webb & Crawford have given an ex cellent and extended display of fine fan cy groceries. Canned goods, preserves, canvass bams, candies and attractive and appetising bits for housekeepers fte grouped invitingly. The candy counter was especially attractive. ^br. Geo. W. Kush haa a counter of mirrors banked in velvet and toilet arti clea swathed in ribbon. It ia a tasty and varied display and attracts scores of visitors. The line of plain and fancy paper ia pretty and perfect. McDowell & Son hive made an at tractive retreat with their pictures, cards, tablets and beautiful samples of fancy and family groceries. Parched coffees, teas cans bottles, and tvery sort of neat, appetising anti attractive articles hava been grouped together. Thh ia one of the best displays at the fair, and we congratnlate this enterprising firm upon their success. M. Myers & Go have put up a beputi- ful pagods tented io velvet portieres carpets and fine dry good* generally Thera are musical chairs, elegant Cbinal seta and alt kinds of fine dry goods. and fancy holiday articles. ^Oneof the mo si*pteaaing and sub stantial displays are the 'bolts and cuts of domestics, shirtings, iheetinga and ebteka from tbe Athena factory. This ia a display onr people art aspecially tn* v teres ted in and it is» great pity there are nf|) more of them. Talmadgo Brothers have gotten up one respectively. They are certainly beauti ful. . Some of the best stock on the grounds camo from Fairview farm, exhibited by Mrs. T. L. Gantt. They bear the blue ribbon for the best two yftar old heifer, three quarter Jersey; best heifer any age, and for tbe best three year old cow— also a three: quarter Jersey A, This Animal gives six gallons a day. Fairview also has the blue ribbon for the best unregis tered Jersey. • TUB POUL1RY DISPLAY. Perhaps tho most complete display at tho fair ia the poultry exhibit. Athens ia well known for her poultry men, who have borne off tho laurels from one or more fairs this yaar. The coops are nicely arranged under the grand stand, and in each apartment, is a specimen of some fine breed. Among tho many entries, wa could not help cilling attention to the following: Tl o Brown Leghorns of Mr- Robert Hodgson are certaioly beautiliil. In the Plymouth Rock liue, there aro several entries—Maasrs. C. 1. Mell, 8- M. Herrington, James Comer, J. E. Tab inadge, C. G. Talmadgo and J. C. Oir, Each of theso gentlemen have fine aped mens, and the judges will have shard time awarding the premium. Mr. James Comer’s White Leghorns are very much admired. Thq trio of game chickens of Mr. T. C. Crawford always have a crowd of ad mirers around them. Athens ia a great game chicken center. The Wyandoltes, which are so popular in our city at present, are well repre sented at the fair. The chickens of Judgo Howell Cobb, Mr. Frank Rbodos and Mr. Yancey Harris, are certainly fine, and are much admired. Judge Cobb's have just returned home from Macon where they carried off the prise. Master Charlie Hodgson does'not con* fine himself to chicken raising, but hsi also on exhibition some fine Pekin ducks of which he is very proud. Master Yancey Gantt comes to the front with a coop of fino Georgia geest* Yancey, though young at tho business will very probably carry off the first prise in his line. In the midst of the poultry display Is a coop of lop-eared rabbits, exhibited by Mr. J. B. Maddox. Tbiaia ona of the the-most attractive features ol the fair, aud large crowds continually block the passage way a these curious little ani mals. There are s great msny fine chickens here frotn all over Georgia. FAKOY WORK. Mr, Soudder*s display la simply India, cribable, everyone one goes and sees for themselves. A very handsome silk quilt adorns the outside of Mr. Scudderia exhibit. Mr, Meyers added a lovely stringing bed and a musical chair to his already magnificent display. Mr* Rush has done a great deal to make the fair a aucoesa by his display of beautiful goods. All the ladies are taken with the Char ter Oak Stove. Mrs. Holman hat the finest display of preserves, cannod fruits and pickles, that the fair has ever had. Mrs. Rowena Hughes sands n remark ably fine and larga display of domestic wines. Mrs. Morton senda some fine wheat. May Hodgson senfia a pound cake Ik r own make. Mr. Lumpkin sends a splandid array of vegetables—his skill In gardening h well proven by this display, Miss Anna Hodgson sends a c Election of 43 different vegetables and herbs from her garden. Mrs. Carlton sends a fine large collec tion of all the products of her farm. Miss Genie Long senda some lovely painting on satin. Mrs. Mure sends a varied collection of fancy work. Miss Mary Nicholson has some lovaljr needle work at the fair. A little child 9 years of age sends a tidy made of the cord taken off parcel! and bundles. Mrs Cheney sends some exquisite fancy work. Miss. Maggie and Tillie Morton have sent a great deal of lovely work to the fair. ~- VU»-MCY«M RACKS. At 12 o’clock the bicycle races took place and proved to be very interesting In faot, bicycle racing has grown to be quite a popular aport in Athena, and tha, people look forward to them with inter est, judging from tbe crowd that wit- desaed them yesterday. The following was the program: nvs MILK FEOFESSIOlfAL SACK. Tha event of the day was the five mile race between R A Brantley, of Ma con, and A G Crocker, of Boston, Mast. The track was in very bid ord.-r, which accounts for the time, which was rather alow. Crocker set the pace almost the entire length, but Brantley held his own being only a few feet behind. Crocker would putin his spurts on tba best por tion of thd track while Brantley tried to spurt on the hill. At the four and one- half miles it looked as though Brantley had the best of the Boston boy; but when they reached the hill Crocker pass ed him and took the outside track and made a beautiful spurt *nd won tha race in 20 minutes, aix seconds. The .track will be put in good condition for to-day’s races, which will be very interesting. AMATSOK SACKS. The one mile amtteur race was won by Smith, of Chicago, w*th Yancey Harris of Athens,' a good second.
