amount is $120,000. Of this, $50,000 was

In the blacksmith shop of Henry Haas
and spread rapidly to the top floor, occu
pied by the New York Putsnt Cigar Box
manufao ory, whero a number of girls
were at work.
The firemen were promptly on the
spot, and received several of the girls
through third story windows.
Three girls, however, were caught by
the homes before the firemen could reach
them, and were burned to death.
Their names were Joiie Fnrrenkoff,
Lena Straub and Barbara Oppel. One
girl, who was re»cu< c! by the firemen,
was badly injuted. It is supposed that
the fire was in?eodiary, and one arrest
hue been made of suspected persons.

About a year ago Leo Gong, a rather
prominent Chinaman w ho had married
a colored girl here, died, and his remains
were interred in the Washington ceme
tery. A laigo number of Chinamen at
tended the funeral, i nd an effort was
made by them to secure pormisslrn to
remove the body to China, but the re
quest was refuted, and thev were told to
wait until the tlesh had dropped from
the bones, and then return the bones to
their native land.
Yeeterday the body was dirinterred,
the bones placed iu a box 18 bv 24 inches
In sire, and shipped to China. Wing Leo,
a relative of the dead Chinaman, said it
would cost but $13 to send the boues
borne.

Owinosville, Ky., Jan. 15.—James
H. Arnold, a somewhat noted character
of this county, was arrested and brought
to this place on a warrant sworn out by
John K. Trumbo, the warrant charging
Arnold with poisoning Trumbo's family
by putting Paris green in their milk. All
the members of the family that drank
the milk became very sick. An exam
ining trial of Arnold will be had to-day.
