Mell announced the musical programme first in order, which was as follow Instrumental duct, Miskes Barnes and Dougherty, Vocal duet, Misses Fleming and Barnes. Vocal duet, Misses Walker and Barnet. Mr. Mell then introduced If on. E. T. Brown as the lecturer of the evening, who would auuouuce his own subject. Mr. Brow n stated at the outset, that he had been requested to deliver a lecture upon “ThegLaw* of Georgia ns ap plied to women,” but lie failed to find in his whole course of study any law to which any woman paid the least at tention. 8he generally (at least that was his experience,) made her own laws and changed them at her pleas- We feel that wo arc perfectly within bounds when we say that the lecture wo* brilliant and highly entertaining, at the same time instructive, it was a model of it* kind. The lecturer wa* greeted with round after round of up. pluuxe, as hi* bright and telling point* were caught by the audience. Mr. Brown ha* certainly by Ids effort of Thursday evening, made u name for himself a* a lecturer. We have never seen an audieuce more thoroughly en- tort allied. Everyone was charmed, and it was generally regretted when the lec turer closed. W. W. Thomas will deliver the next lecture two weeks from Friday night. The second part of the musical pro gram was commenced with instrumen tal solos by Misses Annie Crawford and .Meta Charhonnier, after which Mrs. Brown favored the audience w ith one of her beautiful selection* which was encored. This closed the pleasant pro gram which was enjoyed to its full ex tent by every one present. * * * A most pleasant lawn party which was hooked for Cohbhain last week, was unavoidably postponed. Hugh Taylor are glad to welcome her hack home, after a visit to relatives in Mn- * * * Mr. “Brick” Miller, a gradu ate of the University of Georgia, has been with his old friends for a few day. * * * The picnic parti**- reported a most excellent time yesterday. The Baptist Sunday School went down the Covington nnd Mvum road to Gould, hut the Good Templar* *lop|>ed at Wat- kinsv'llc. It required four extra coaches to carry the crowd. They re turned at 0 o'clock, and all reported a fine time. * • * The young ladle* of the Lucy Cobb Institute enjoyed among them selves an evening picnic on Friday afternovb. They left the city about 4 o’clock, in Gaun A Murray’s Tallyho, and ate their *uppcr in the woods at Linton’s fatuous spring, about four mile* from the city.
