ami the water powers in the vicinity,
which are situated about ten miles
above tho city, are inovkig in the

mined to make a display at the Cotton

all interested in manufactures a correct
idea of this property. To this end
they have employed Prof. D C Barrow,

this will appear the height of the
falls, tho amount of water discharged
per second, locality with reference to
Athens aud a particular description
of the various points which are likely
to be inquired about. This map and
description will be complete, and cap

in operation there a saw mill and grist

qualified to do this work and will
make it very satisfactory to the pro

worthy of all imitation by owners of
property in this and adjoining couns

should ha exhibits of various other

Instantly Killed.
Intelligence reached the city yes
terday that Dr. Stephen E. F. Jacks
son, of Oconee county, was killed on
Wednesday night by a kick from a
horse. We could not got the particu
lars further than the fact that the
Doctor had just taken the bridle off
the nnintal when ho wheeled ’round
and kicked him on tho head which
broke the skull so that the brain was
exposed. Dr. Jackson was a promi-
inent physician of his county. He
lived in what is known ns the Dark
Corner. His sudden death is very sad.

Two young Indians were in the city
to-day, and afforded much entertain

to see them. They had a bow and
arrow with them and would shoot
dime at twenty yards, hitting it every
time* Of course they expected to be
remunerated every time they made a
successful shot. These Indians
belong to tho tribe in the Cher
okee country of North Carolina.
They are down here at work. They
have been engaged in getting cross-
ties op tho railroad. They say there
are about 1,500 Indians now in their
country.' . ■ — * •

The same fellows who punched the
holes in coins are now engaged in
filling tho holes with lead. We saw
about twenty pieces of various denom
inations, all fixed np in this way.
Those taking change should be care
ful to look out for these, as they will
no more pass than those with holes in
then.

In A , ore of Florida’s sea

days, a wealthy but very eccentric oiu
gentleman, who at one occasion being
quite sick, awoke his wife in the mid
dle ot tho night, with a tremendous
uproar. To her anxious inquiry as to
the cause of his excitement, be testily
replied that, 4 he had not thought
much about his illness, until he bad
just happened to remember that,
case he shottld die, the town could not
afford a decent cojin in which to
baty him." That man was bilious,
A few doses of H. II. P. would have
cured him, and caused him to forget
that there were such things as coffins.
