THE OCONEE FaIK ELECTION.

of Oconee County Fair Association
met on Saturday morning last, at 10
o’clock,in their fourth annual meeting.
The report ol the secretary was
very gratifying. It showed a small
balance iu favor of the association. It
was determined that there would be a
fair in 1882, and the executive com
mittee was instructed to make out.
early in the spring, a premium list.
The following officers were elected
for tne ensuing year : president, B. E.

ardson and W. A. Woodis; secre

DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN.
Mr. H. G. Hardigree died sudden
ly yesterday morning while on his
way to church.
The facts, as I heard them, arc as
follows: Mr. II. and his wife started
tc church a few miles distant from
his home ; they had gone bat a short
distance, when he got out of his buggy
and walked up a sleep bill. On get'
ting back into the buggy lie remarki d
to his wife, that he felt very strange,
and after a short struggle he died.
Mr. Hardigree was a good citizen,
and leaves a large circle ol friends to
mourn his loss. Oconee.

The Number 37.
The number 37 has become famil
iar to most newspaper readers, by its
constant use by a famous Atlanta
advertiser. Mr. A. O. M. Gay, one
of the.best clothiers iu the South has
his store at number 37 Peachtree
street, Atlanta, Ga. Hu has been
in the business many years—long
enough to become familiar with all
the details. He understands the art
of buying, which lo a merchant is
half the battle, for well-bought goods
ueed only to be brought to the atten-
lion ot customers, and they sell
themselves. Mr. Gay buys goods of
the best quality, and he manages to
get them at the lowest possible
prices. This enables him to offer
good goods very cheap. The most
elegant gentleman oi wealth and
leisure can find garments at Gay’s
fine enough to suit him ; while the busi
ness man of moderate means can get
clothing, genteel and durable, at prices
adapted to his pocket-book. Personal
Knowledge of Mr. Gay’s business en
ables us to speak confidently. See
his advertisement.

People visiting Atheus cannot fail
to see the bright red front of A. K.
Childs’ stove bouse, and seeing it,
they should not fail to go there and

which are offered. Stoves of superior

an attractive appearance along the
whole length of the room. Tile cele
brated ‘Times’ is there and leads in
excellence of quality and finish while
all others are scarcely less desirable.
Then the stock of tinware ami house
furnishing goods will he found equal

Mr. W. H. Jones, the superintend
ent of the establishment, is thorough

in waiting on all who call.

It will be gratifying lo all friends

which will be made up right away. |
And now in rejoicing over the con
summation of this long desired object
the minds of all will instinctively turn
to the bright nnd beautiful young lady,
whose modest but enthusiastic efforts
have made the chapel possible. It
was the letter ot Miss Nellie Stovall
which first enlisted the interest cl
the warm-hearted Seney and next to
this generous benefactor, slie will re
ceive the earnest gratitude of every
one who feels an interest in the In
stitute, or is touched by disinterested

We are told that accompanying the
check was a request from Mr. Seuey

Mr. C. B. Veroneo, whose invent
ive skill has produced some most use
ful labor-saving articlea, has among
others a simple little machine, made
ot tin, for slicing and coring apples,
peaches, peats and similar fruit,
which will commend itself to all who
see it. It is constructed so as lo slice
and lake the core from an apple at
the same time, aud its usefulness is
apparent in many ways. With one of
these, a man can slice as many apples
for drying, in an hour, as lie could
slice with a knife in a whole day. He
can also slice and core fruit as fust as.
it can he fucked by a halt dozen chil
dren. A child can use it, and where
bushels of apples are now lell to rot
because they cannot be cut for dry in
all could be used and money nun
with this machine. It is one oftbe
best articles ol the kind we ever saw,
and its cheapness and simplicity will
make it sell right along. Everybody
should have one.

One of the largest esta* -'

Hunnicntt & Bellingrath. Beginning
on a small scale,- after the close ol the
war, they recognized the fact that the
closest attculion tc busiuess and the
most untiring energy were needed to
make them successful. To this work
they devoted themselves, aud the re
sult has justified their expectations
and tkeir.efforts. Gradually, but s-ead-
ily and unceasingly, their busiuess baa
increased until now they occupy
immense three-story building, and do
a business which is by no means limi
ted by state, liues. They are head
quarters for stoves, ranges, furnaces
and house-furnishing goods--with all
that the latter term includes. A glance
at their advertisement will show what
a wide range their stock takes, It ia
large, and their prices are always
