/ C|c^mit|a:n'§imitcr Athens, Ga.. October 25,5881. J. T- WATHIRMAN, PROPRIKjum. Set your hens iu the evening if yon have to move them from the laying nests. They will be more anre to stick to their new nests ; and take Gilder’s Liver Pills for your bilious ness. dc.21.lm. LOCAL. INTELLIGENCE. and We are glad to know that Sheriff Browning is able to get about a little in a buggy and attend to some of his duties. His arm is still useless but he is otherwise improving. We hear of some outrageous con duct by three young men who went to a negro house in the edge of the city a few days ago, under the influ ence of liquor. It is a matter the po lice might investigate. The old shop on Prince avenue, near the court house is an eye-sore and ought to be torn down. The cel lar under it is a pest hole and a nui sance to all the neighborhood. The slicet hands should fill it up. Doc Bitten. Mr. Gl. Rose, of the police force, was severely bitten a day or two since by a dog belonging to Mr. Sloman She is a vicious animal and has bitten several people we understand. Mr. Rose went by the plaeo afterward when she again ran out after him and he shot at her, bat the ball only grazed her back for some distance and she got away. Such a dog should be kept close. Mr. Rose’s wound is painful but not serious. BBionra disease other affections of the Kidney Judge Wiley C. Howard, of Jef ferson, was in the city to-day on his way home from Oglethorpe court. He informs us that the grading on the Gainesville & Jefferson road is com pleted to within five miles of the lat ter place. Some of the flat cars have arrived and the engine was expected to-day. The work ot laying the iron will begin at once and be pushed rap idly. Tho whole road will be in run ning order before Christmas. The New .Furniture Store. Messrs Patman & Bird desire to call attention to tho fact that they arc offering splendid bargains in furniture, coffins, bnrial robes etc., at their new store on Thomas street. Their goods arc all new and arc bound to please. Special inducements to country merchants. Mr. Zeke Edge is now with this honso and any one de siring any thing in the undertaker’s line should call on him. Remember the* place. oct21-d*w-tf Well ‘Advertised. Forepaugh appreciates the benefits of advertising in all sorts of ways, and indulges in it more extensively than any ehowman we know. He employs over sixty men, who are divided into squads and go ont in advance to put up pictures everywhere, distribute pa pers, books, handbills, etc., and let all the world know that the monster •how is coming. He is a liberal pa- tronizer of the newspapers and knows that they will reach people where even his pictures and handbills caanot go. Last night a magic lantorn exhibition was givenl on Broad street, which was greatly enjoyed by the crowd. Forcpangh shows all he advertises. Homicide at Harmony Grove. The usually quiet village of Harm ony Grove has been greatly excited for a few days over a wanton mur der committed near there, on Satur day or Sunday last. A fair or church entertainment of some sort was held by the colored people at a church not far from the town, and among others present were Bob. Redding and two brothers named Coolie. There had been bad blood between Redding and one of the Coolies, but we are not in formed that they indulged in any quarrel at the church. The morning after, the body of Redding was found in the woods near Harmony Grove with some*terrible knife wounds, show ing what had produced his death. One wound was in the temple, anoth. er in the heart and another acress the abdomen. The suspicion at once poin ted to the Coo’.ie brothers and when they were sought for it was found that they had left, and could not be heard of. This put the kilims on them strong as circumstances can and they will bo apprehended if possible. We hope the authorities will seek the aid of a reward trom the Governor at onoe before these murderers get clear off. Death of Hr. B. T. Bishop This gentleman who has been very ill for sometime, died this morning at 8 o’clock at his home in this oity. Mr. Bishop was a yonng man of brilliant intellect and fine promise up to a few months ago, when disease laid its hand on him and brought him low in body and mind. He gradu ated at the University in 1879 and afterward in the law school, both times with the first honor. After- terward he went to Prinoelon college, N. J., to complete his studies and prepare himself for the ministry. He remained about a year, and it was here that was laid the foundation of the maladies which have terminated fatally. Being of bri] y* and Bladder are sometimes brought on and often aggravated by the neg lect of the symptoms, which, if taken in time, would no doubt in a majority of cases yield to treatment. Moffett—Dear Sir:— My wife and myself are satisfied that the life of our teething babe was saved by the use of your Teethina (Teething Powders), when other remedies had foiled to relieve him. We have been delighted with the epeedy and permanent relief given one of our children.from severe at• tack of Cholera Morbus.
