When the-action of the Governor
in affixing the State’s endorsement to
the bonds of the Northeastern rail
way was made public in Athens, the
people of that rapidly growing city
gave expresst-m to their enthusiasm
in a series public rejoicings. It is
natural that they should have done
this, and we arc glad to be able to
add our congratulations to theirs,
and wish them Godspeed in tho com
pletion of the enterprise. But Athens
will not have completed her etitrie
work, even though her Northeastern
may find a lodgment amid the north
ern mountains, there to merge with
the promised road from Knoxville*
True, by this important link, eastern
and western markets will be opened
to her, and the products of these secs
tiona will find easy access to her
