The President, and Members of Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company submitted n proposition to the Coun cil proposing that if the Council would grant them a two horse dray liceuse free, and have a suitable pole pnt to the Babcock Machine, so that they could use horses in carrying the ma chine to and from fires, that they, The company, would procure a suitable pair of horses and quarter them near the Engine House, feed and handle them at their owu expense and use them on all occasions of fire in con veying the Bahceck Machine to and Resolved further, That the Mayor notify the Convention of this action of Council at once and request their acceptance of same. ResolvedJyrther, That the Mayor and entire Council be c6tistitate<I-K-' Committee to net with a like Commit tee of citizens to arrange a suitable en tertainment, and that the sum of one hundred dollars, together with such other suras as may be procured by the Committee, be appropriated to defray the expenses of said entertainment. The matter of opening street to such point as the officers of Northeast Road shall see proper to locate the guano depot, was referred to street Committee. The monthly reports of the Treas urer, Chief of Police, Lamplighter and Clerk of Market were read and received. On motion of Alderman Palmer the Clerk of Council was instructed to suspend receiving Tax returns uotii action shall be had on petition of Mr. Bloomfield. The following bills were ordered paid: Athens Foundry and Machine Works, 812.32; Gas Co. 862.50, 862,50, $1.40 and 40cts. Mr. E. The proposition of the company was accepted by the Council and the Committee on Fire Depart ment were instructed to have a pole pnt to the Babcock Machine in accor dance with this agreement. Mr. R. L. Bloomfield appeared be fore the Council and asked them to re consider their action at last meeting in fixing the tax law for the present year. He stated that he had conversed with a number of citizens who would 'be effected by the change he proposed and they all expressed a. willingness to sign a' petition asking'the Council to malts the change. He submitted other facts in support of his petition for change^ By Alderman Hodgson:. Resolved, That when Council ad« journ, it adjourn to meet Tuesday evening next at 3 o’clock, p. in. or sooner if a full board can be had, and that action on the petition of Mr. Bloomfield be deferred until that time. Adopted. Alderman Hodgsop submitted a verbal report in regard to the enter tainment of the Press Convention, should they visit this city.
