A young while man named Major Spinx was knocked down in a fight, one ne gro man received a flesh wound in the neck from a pistol shot by Spins, and another negro man was slabbed bex tween the eyes, but the wound did not prove serious. In the second ward a Chiram.m voted for Estes, which is tlie first time a Chinaman ever voted in Augusta, and, as far as we know, the first instance of the kind in Geor gia. The tact is, no eonsiderali; and ambi tions candidate dare be so presump- tious as to even hope success unless he first secures the championship of (be wand politician. As an essential ele ment to success his power and ’influx euce are not only generally conceded and fully recognized, but universally respected and sought after. His importance is manifested and more deeply felt |viz: by the candidate] after the elecx lion is over. It is then he beholds with that pride, wbicu alone swells the bosom ol the victorious ward politi cian, that result which puts him in a position to measure bis own impor tance, while he measures to his heart’s content the financial ability of his chosen candidate. So necessary is it for our public imu and anib.itous ottice seekers to pay a proper regard u> this class ol local politicians of the most modem and improved type, that wt have at great expense, [pro bono pub lico] obtained an illustration, true to nature, and which we feel confident, it ouly properly studied and remem bered will guard them against failures and defeat in the future.
