Harrold, Johnson & Co., received four wagons loa 'e<l wilh syrup from one of the plantations of lion. John A. Cobb, of this county. There were thirty-six barrels of very fine syrup and we learn from the firm that received it, that Capt Cobb made enough more to feed the hands on four other plantations belonging to him. The wagons re turned Tuesday morning lo tiled with empty syrup barrels. The Captainis one ot these live farmers who make their rations at home, keep their heads above the high pressure mark of want, and run smoothly with all parties. This is the true independent move ment of Georgia, In which all farmers should join hands, and keep the ball in motion. 'Die gin house of Dr. S. J. Jones, of Thomas county, was recently burned. He had been sick a long time, and when last seen was sitting under the camp ground arbor, and appeared to have died there from natural cause. Brown, of Forsyth comi ty, has lost several horses by death in the past 12 mouths. Mrs Reuben Keith, of Hall county, went to a funeral, accompanied by her two children, who rode on a mule. To make the children secure she tied them on the mule, and when he got scared and mil away the children were nearly killed. Mr A Campbell, of Philadelphia, has bought the Arkwright cotton Facto ry, at Savannah. Mr Thomas B Kel ly, of Wilmington, N. C., will be the Superintendent, and work will be commenced at once. _ There was a cutting affray in Franklin county recently between Mitchell Addison and Columbus Pur cell. Addison was badly hurt. Hon. W. O. Tuggle, and family, of Kilpatrick, oi Heard county, was thrown from his horse by the animal’s falling, and his right arm was bro ken. Mrs. L. J. Mann and family have moved from Toccoa to North Caro lina. A couple of unruly oxen hitched to a cart pushed the Hon. J. O. Far- nell’s horse and buggy from the flat Tho saw-mill, gin house and plan ing machine of Jno. W. Crump, in Franklin county, were burned recent ly, with 9 bales of cotton.
