The Woman Who Was Once the Host Beautiful

The once must beautilul woman ot
Arkansas is now a beggar. She is
thu daughter of Sandy Faulkner, the
“Arkansas Traveler.’* She has I teen
married several times, and is now
known as Mrs. Trapnell. In thu old
days of Arkansas aristocracy, when
the rich planters aud nten of note
gathered at the Ashley mansion, Miss
Faulkner was the belle, pelted, flat
tered aud admired by e' er oue. Her
wardrobe lyune from Paris and her
lovers from everywhere. A slave to
the demands of gayety and conquest,
she was haughty, and emsidered
heartless. Her sway for years was un
disputed. mid w hen her financial de
cline came she would not recognize a
fact which seemed to her bo prepos
terous. She married, but iier hus
band did not prove to be wealthy.
Frqm this husband, if I am correctly
inlorined, she was divorced. She was
still beautiful, ami though divorced
trom her husband, she was still insep
arably wedded to society. But tlie
bright star of her life had begun to
grow dint. Her father died and left
her with comparatively nothing. Still
she’)fa<l offers of matriage, hut site
disdained them on financial grounds.
On one ucca-ion a large [tarty was
forming to visit tlie New Orleans Mardi
Gras festivities. She was unable to
tne> t the necessary expenses. A gen
tleman who had heard her express
herself, uud with whom she » as scan e-
)y acquainted, remark to her: *Tf
you will marry me I will take you to
New Orleans.” “I will,” she exclaimed,
nnd they were married. This husband,
1 think, died shortly afterward. 8onte
time after this she met with hii acci
dent. While riding in a buggy the
horse ran away. She was thrown out

sadly weak and tremulous old man,
