JOAQUIM MILLER
IN DYJICONOITION
San Franclico, March 24.—Joaquin

cisco. A funeral byre o fsolld mason
ry built under his direction on tbe
bill back of bis home swslts his body.
For years Its hollowsd top hat been

as stated by Hs closest friends, are

tbe distant hilltop will tell three-
quarters of a million people around
San Francisco bay of his cremation.
Twenty-five years ago tbe verses
of the “Poet of the Sierras” were
printed from California to Maine and
quoted as freely as Longfellow's. At
that time he visited the capitals of
Europe, where be was the literary
Iloq of the hour. Such men as Ten
nyson, Rossetti, Burne-Jones and
Browning entertained him. He has
spent tbe latter part of his life in
a seclusion broken only by the vis
its of neighbors and tbe pilgrimage
of friends. His 90-acre estste nesr
hare Is hnown as tbe “Heights."
