The petition of University Savings
Bsnk, respectfully shows:
That on the second day of De
cember, 1902, petitioner was granted
charter by the Secretary of State
of the Btate of Georgia to do a gen
eral banking business, with Its prin
cipal office and place of business In
the City of Athens, Clarke County,
Georgia
2. That no amendments have here
tofore been made to the charter of
petitioner.
3. That petitioner desires its char
ter amended In the following re
spects:
(a) Thjjt He corporate name be
changed from University Savings
Bank to THE AMERICAN STATE
BANK.
(b) That the face value of each
share of ita capital stock be changed
from Eighty ($80.00) Dollars per
share to One Hundred ($100.00) Dol
lar* per shore.
(c) That the amount of Its capital
stock be increased from Forty Thou
sand ($40,000.00) Dollarc to One Hun
dred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dollars.
4. That aald proposed amendments
have been duly authorised by the
rote of a majority in amount of the
entire capital stock of said bank at
a meeting of the stockholders called
for the purpose by resolution of the
Board of Directors, notice of which
meeting was mailed tp each stock
holder in the manner prescribed by
law at least thirty ($0) days previous
to the day of said meeting.
5. Petitioner presents herewith a
certified abstract from the Minutes
of the Board of Directors showing
that this application has been au
thorized In the manner provided by
law.

mostly the road to where Jesse Smith
and Wash Bowling now live, then on
through lands of said Edwards, until
reaching line of W. H. Morton, thence
along lines between lands of said Mor
ton and Edwards, thence along lines
between said Edwards and Jas. R.
Crane, running Into road from W. R.
Tuck's, to the public road from Ar-

On next Friday evening, April 7th,
at the Colonial opera house the Uni
versity of Georgia Glee and Mando
lin Club will give Its first concert of
the season. Athenians well remem
ber the splendid concert given by the
last Georgia Glee Club, and those
who had the pleasure of bearing the
1907 club and who have also heard
the rehearsals ot this year's club
feel confident that the present club
will even surpass the excellent con
cert given by its predecessors. Any-
• ay, the people of Athens and the
students of the University owe 1$ to
these young men to turn out In large
numbers, and it Is needless to say
that no one will go away dissatisfied.
The reorganization of the Glee and
Mandolin Club meani a great deal to

Inter*Collegiate Debaters
for Tulane and North
Carolina Debates Haye
'Been Selected.

Intercollegiate debaters were yes
terday afternoon selected by the Uni
versity of Georgia for the contest In
the forum with Tulane university and
North Carolina. The men eelected to
represent Georgia against the Tulane
debaters are T. R. Marshall, of Ce-
dartown, and R. B, Troutman, of
Athens. Those who will represent
Georgia against North Carolina at
Chapel Hill are Evans Heath, ot Gir
ard, and Millard Rewlt, of Collins.
The selection of these men was on
competitive basla Boykin Wright
of Augusta, was chosen as alternate
for the affirmatives, and J, J. Slaton,
of Atlanta, was selected as alternate
for the negatives. The question will
be debated on the same dale by
crews from five Southern colleges
and universities. Georgia facet Tu
lane In Athene end North Carolina
at Chapel Hill. The queitlon to be
debated Is: "Resolved, That a fed
eral income tax, constitutionally
granted, would be a desirable part ot

case of James Walker, wbo, several
weeks ago, shot and killed Chief ot
