So they call "Love Madness," her newest picture -Milch Is now playing at the Elite theater. It is a big, tense, vital, human Interest drama- In which the star Is entrusted with the greatest role of her career. And when we bear In mind that It was Mias Glaum that pave us "The Lone Wolfs Daughter,” "Sahara," and "Sex” that means some thing! "Love Madness" is the story of a neglected wife and a spouse who seeks to drug into unconst;iousnes3 a con science which rebels at the thought [ of the life he has followed at the bo-j best of a simpering vampire of the; underworld. The man becomes the tool of creature of an underworld “boss," and by a peculiar but logical chain of events is brought to believe himself guilty of a murder. Convicted on circumstantial grounds be awaits, In the death house at Sing Sing, the end of a thwarted life. He thinks his wife has deserted him. He grieves for hlB child. Elaine Hammerstein Has Strong Drama in “The Daughter Pays” "And I learned about women from her.’ The theory of Kipling's poem Is that a man can always learn something about the sex from any .woman, no matter how much he may previously have known about the sepcles. In •‘The Daughter Pays," the new Selz- nick Picture starring winsomo Elaine Hammerstein, which la to he shown today at the Strand theater, Osbert Gaunt learns a great deal about wom en from Virginia Mynors. Among other tilings he finds that all women aren't selfish, shallow, loveless and money mad. Mrs. Bailie Reynolds, who wrote the story from whirl, tills picture wus made, has achieved something very much out of the ordinary. While building up a s-t of very extraordi nary circumstances, she has not made loo great a demand upon credulity, nor Is the action strained or unnatu ral. It treats the situation of a young girl marrying an old man, apparently for his wealth, In,a new and seemingly original way. Gaunt marries Virginia because she Is the daughter of the woman who, In his early life, turned him down for a richer man. He marries tho girl for revenge, planning to make her suffer keenly all tl,rough life, to pay the penalty of her mother's- act. He believes Virginia is the same sort of girl her mother was. But the girl's sweet ways, bet simplicity and purity and her splendid spirit tn making the best of n bad bargain, eventually wins her husband's love and brings the happiness she deserves. (Special to The Banner) Atlanta, Jan. 27.—Tho matter of prompt payment of the Georgia pen sions is again a question G f ver y se . rlous consideration. L03t year the first half of the list of pensioners, under the old law, were paid on February 26th, the amount being $632,820 and the second pay ment was made on April 28th of $627,- 775. Under the law the pensions are required to lie paid by the first or March. The state of the treasury at tills time, with probably two-thirds of all the ad-valorem taxes of the state col lected and turned tn, Is such that there Is no Indication today of ability to meet any part of the pension list in the month of February and, when ever that is mdt. there is the further serious problem of bow the second portion of the list will be paid off. In addition to this there Is already being experienced a great deal of confusion among the pensioners—in excess of Good plow bridles at $1.50. Martin Brothera. Seaboard Air Line Ry.
