Will It Rain For
40 Days In Athens
(By John E. Drewry)
It is goInK to rain in Athens every
day for forty days! You don’t believe
It? Well, Just ask Toni Stokes, the
sporting celebrity with The Athens
Dally Herald, and he will tell you that
the above statement is true. Mr
Stokes has been a very close student
of legends—legends of every kind*-

legend that if it rains on St. Swithln’s
day, or July 15th, rain is hound to
come every day for forty days.

James Barrow, city clerk of Athens,
is in receipt of the following Inter
estlng letter from Burton F. Watts
Jr., of Detroit. Mich., who Is making
an effort, to trace the nativity of his
father:
"X am endeavoring to trace the na
tivity of my father. Burton F. Watts.
He was born in Athens, Ga„ In May
about 1852. ^* e
"Please Investigate your recorda
(birth) and sec If you can supply me
with tho names of his parents, etc.
“Will appreciate your efforts very
much and ask that you give the mat
ter your Immediate attention.”
Due to the fact that birth records
have never been kept in Georgia. Mr.
Barrow Is unablo to furniBh Mr. Watts
with the information he Is seeking
and consequently ho will never he
able to ascertain the nativity of his
parents. It Is unfortunate that Geor
gia has not, during all those years,
kept such records and It was a pro
gressive step that the state recently
took when It demanded the registra
tion of all births and deaths.
Only recently Tho Banne; carried
an editorial that pictured In a vory
vivid , manner the importance of vital
statistics.

THE IRON THAT
WOMEN DESIGNED
How should an electric
iron be made to best lit wo
men’s needs? Here’s a ques
tion that none can answer
better than women them
selves. That’s why in pro
ducing this new six and one-
half pound iron, Westing-
house enlisted the co-opera
tion of women.
How heavy should an iron
be? How should the handle
be shaped?* How should the
cord be attached? These and
dozens of other important
points were settled not by
men—not by engineers—but
by women who use irons.
That is why this new iron
erqbodies graceful lines,
beauty bf finish, a durable
and handsome coVd, beveled
edge, a broad base, comfort
able handle, perfect balance
and a steel clad heating unit.
