Enthusiastic Meeting Is Held By
Tallulah Falls Circle Here Friday
" The first meeting of the Young
Matron’s Tallulah Falls Circle this
season was held Thursday at 340
o'clock at the home of Mrs. O. H.
Arnold.
About fifty members attended
and much enthusiasm and interest
was shown toward the purpose of
the organization and its plans for
the coming year, 7
The president, Mrs. Murray
Soule, opened the meeting, aftera
few words by Mrs. Lamar Rucker
and- introduced the speakers of the
afternoon.
Mrs. John E. Talmadge gave a
delightful talk on the worthiness
of the club’s projeet, and Mrs. H.
B. Ritchie made a most Insrpirlng
address, telling of the founding of
Tallulah Falls School, itsaims and
aceomplishments, and the impor
tant part played in its organiza
tionn by Ather® Dbeloved Mrs.
Lipscomb.

pleasant trip to the school in the

the Athens meeting, and told of a
plan to celebrate the twenty-fifth
anniversary of the founding of the

Plans for a bridge party to be
given Wednesday, November 15, at
Michael’'s Town Hall were discuss
ed and Mrs. Leroy Michael, chair
man of the committee in charge,
asked all those wishing to engage
a table at fifty cents a .couple to
communicate with her as soon as
possible.
Miss Marie McHatton was se
legied to organize a Young Girls
Circle to work with the Athens
Young Matron’s Circle in its wor
thy purpose.
The meeting was adjourned and
the members were invited to the
dining room where Mrs. Arnold
served tea, assisted by Mrs. Ed
Dorsey, Miss Eugenia Arnold and
friends and a delightful social
half-hour was spent together.

The League of Women Voters
wishes to remind the voters that
they have only wuntil November 17

city council will be made Decem
ber 2. At the same time there will

or not the ecity will issue bonds
amounting to SIOO,OOO.
All city taxes for the year 1933
and the previous years must be
paid by November 17, and persons
seeking to qual‘fy to vote must
register by that time. Many per
sons are registered at the court
house and not at the city hall.
Women are not required to pay
poll tax in order to qualify in city
elections, and persons reaching the
age of sixty years . are exempt
from paying poll tax.. i

PHI MU ALUMNAE
ENTERTAIN FRIDAY
One of the week's loveliest so
cial events, was the brilliang tea at
which the Phi Mu alumnae enter
tained Friday afternoon from 4:00
to 6:00 o'clock at the Phi Mu home
on Milledge avenue in compliment
to the local chapter.
The spacious room presented a
charming picture in the wealth of
handsome chrysanthemums in the
sorority colors, rose and white. The
richly appointed tea table overlaid
with an important cloth, was cen
tered with the exquisite flowers
with the bonbons and sandwiches
carried the same color motif.
-In. the receiving line were Mrs.
Preston Brooks,. president, of the
alumnae association; Mrs. Fergu
son, house mother, and Miss Patsy
Weodruff, president of the local
chapter. Those assisting were Mrs
Mid Wingfield, Mrs. Dan Magill,
Miss Mary Rosenblatt, Miss Mary
Dumas, Miss Janet Jarnigan, Mrs.

Program Given
Children’s World Circle,
Adult Class of Oconee
Methodist Meet
A week of prayer program was
given Friday afternoon by the
Children’s World Cirele of Oconee
Streey Methodist church under the
direction of Mrs. Max Pinson, su
perintendent of the children’s work
of the Woman’'s Missionary soci
ety.
Opening songs were ‘“The Apos
tles” and ‘“‘Sweet Hour of Prayer’.
Silent prayens were followed with
a prayer of Mrs. E. E. Beacham,
and t'e Scripture lesson was given
by Mises Lia Mitchum and Nell
Cole. ' Miss Mitchum told the chil
dren their pennies would go tg
help buy a piano for the Negro
children at Payne college and Misp
Evelyn Wilson announced that
part of the money would help
build a children’s ward in a Chi
nese hospital.
With the children all kneeling,
Mrs. E. 8. Kirk gave a conse
crated prayer for these little ones
and their gifts and little George
James dismissed them with the

Mrs. Binus Bryant led the devo
tional, using Isaiah 55-1, Luke 12-32
John 8-16 as her Bible lesson. She
told of God's free offer and our
acceptance. She closed her re
marks with prayer for peace, love,
pardon, faith, hope, light and un
gelfishness¢. “O Master, I.et Me
Walk With Thee”, was sung in
concert,
Mrs. H. G. Callahan gave an
interesting talk on both the home
and foreign missionary project of
the week -of prayer.: She closed
with a sentence prayer led by her
self and closed by Mrs. J. A.
Langford and donations were ten
dered while softly played music
filled the room.

Outstanding in brilllance and
beauty was the surprise birthday
dinner party given Mrs. G. G.
Thompson by her former Sunday
school class of Young Harris
Methodist church.
The parlors of the church were
beautifully decorated with bright
fall flowers. In the dining room a
color scheme of pink and white
was carried out. The table was
lovely, covered with white damask,
and centered with a beautiful
birthday cake with nine candles
representing Mrs. Thompson's nine
vears‘of service as class teacher.
Silver candelabra, with ten pink
tapers and individual favors with
‘burning tapers lighted ithe table.
~ Places were laid for twenty-two.
These were marked with fiain:ty
hand-painted place cards. Mrs.
John Roberts spoke the class’s
love and appreciation for their
teacher and regret that she is
leaving them for other service in
the school. Mrs. Thompson re
sponded touchingly to ithese re
marks.
After the delicious dinner, the
president, Mrs. Bob Thomas, held
a short business session. Then a
moest delightful social hour was
enjoyed under ‘the direction of
Miss Flo Ouida Williamson. This
was very fittingly closed with sev
eral Colonial day tableaus, the last
being little Eyelyn Thomas as an
old fashioned girl; who sang a
love song to the honoree and pre
sented her with a huge nosegay of
handkerchiefs and pink rose buds.
The beautiful birthday cake was
cut and cake and ice cream sers
ved.

The happy event.was beautiful
ly carried out and the lovely deco

themums added charm to the no

The handsomely appointed tea
table was presided over by Mrs.

organization assisted in enter
taining and serving.

sented the young couple accom
panied by affectionate good wishes
