' Large Cities of GCeorgia
'+ May Be Tied in on Police
- Radio Hook-up
| O g
i By RANDOLPH FORT
‘; Associated Press Staff Writer,
| ATLANTA, Ga.—(f)—Establish
| ment in the near future of a state
! wide police radio exchange hook
i up involving several Georgia cities
appeared probable Thursday.
i With the larger cities of the
'; state turning more and more to
‘ radi oalarm systems for their pa
| trol cars, proponents of the
l scheme argue, such a system
!wuuld be feasible, would increase
’tho efficiency of the various d(--i
| partments and would save money
1 for them. 1
! The Atlanta station, says its|
| chief operator, Joseph Fleming,
| can now pick up calls from sta
! tions at Macon and Columbus. It
| cannot hear Savannah nor La
| Grange, wheih have comparatively
| weak stations.
i Augusta and Brunswick are en
gaged in putting in police radio
|systems, and they probably will
join the hook-up if the stations
are strong enough.
The plan proposed would call
for each system broadcasting |
f alarms and information to all
*| other stations at a designated
" | time, which would probably be
g during the early morning hours,
when reception is best. Urgent
alarms could be sent at other
times.
. Will Spread “Net”
Calls sent from each city would
| be picked up by the station in the
other cities and relayed to their
patrol cars. Thus, after a hold-up
in Atlanta, for instance, all po
licemen in all other “member”
cities would be informed within a
| short time to keep watch for the
| robbers.
| Fleming said that by sending]
| such messages by radio, the po
| lice department could save the
| expense of telephone and telegraph
charges and could, at the same
time, give more complete informay
tion.
Such an exchange system would
serve partially to fulfill the ob
‘ jective of the proposed state high- |
way patrol and radio, the estab
| lishment of which was flilled by |
| the state legislature.
| Fleming said a similar system
has been used at times by police
:l‘&diu departments in larger sou-l
thern cities. Last fall, he said,
iAtlanta, Knoxville, Jacksonville,
| Asheville, Birmingham and Mobile
exchanged information in this
t way.
The principal objection to the
plan, said Fleming, ig that recep
tion of police sending sets is poor
in the summer and usually during
the deqtime at all seasons of the
year. i

Negro Servant Tells
Of Kindness of Late
Mr. John T. Pittard
An expression of appreciation
for the Kkindness and help given
the Negroes of Clarke county by
the! late John T. Pittard was
made today by Hattie Haney. In
a letter to the Banner-Herald,
the Negro woman said: .
“Will you please allow me to
say a few words about this great
man, Mr. John T. Pittard. He
was a good man, and a quiet
man. He was never too busy to
answer any question you might
ask him. He would always speak
kind to you. I have never seen
him angry ‘in my life. When you;
was in trouble, he would at all
times talk nice and Kkind, We
Negroes has sure lost a friend.
His place in this world can't be
filled by anyone as well as he. 1
was a servant in his home for ten
or twelve years and it seems it
was only one year. I enjoyed to
serve him. It was so kind in this
home and he never gpoke a mean
word. I can’t say too much about
him. Hattie Haney."” 5
