fimvy rains that fell yenteraay
and last night did not raise the

cording to B. G. Bisson at the
cemetery. The river at that point
was 15.5 feet deep this morning
at 9 o'clock. The gauge was read
at 9:30 and the water level had
dropped down to about 15 feet.
According to Mr. Bisson the
river was about the same depth at
9 o'clock this morning as it was
at that time yesterday, but the
water will be lower this afternoon
if the rains do not start in again
today. The Oconee river at Mitch

Informal indeed in a moment of relaxation is Hizzoner the mayor of
New York, shown here as he leans bacg in a comfortable position to
light his corncob pipe. But Fiorello H. LaGuardia isn’t often seen
in such restful repose. He’s usually out on the firing line, his latest
campaign being directed at market racketeers, in which he banned
the sale of small artichokes in the metropolis. :

The search for a white hope to repulse the threat Joe Louis offers the heavyweight throne had reached
as far as Europe. Jeff Dickson, London promoter, has unearthed Gogeo Mitu, a Rumanian giant who -
soars into the sky something like the Eiffel Tower. Shown here at right, boxing with Lou Lrouiliard,
tormer middleweight thampion, in Paris, Mitu stands 7 feet 8 inches tall, and weighs_ 230 pounds. e
may be imported for duty in the United States soon. #
