LIMESTONE SINK
ALBANY, Ga. — (#) — Ingenious
use is being made of a large lime~
stone sink here for the erection of
a Municipal stadium with WPA
funds.
The concrete portion of the bowl
is being built on the natural for
mation on solid ground.
‘ Fears of doubting Thomases
that the “sink may continue to
sink,” have been laid at rest hy‘
| State Geologist Richard Smith.
i Commenting at Atlanta, he said:
| “A limestone sink is called a sink‘
not because there is danger of lt‘
| sinking, but because the water im
| it drains to a single point like the
| sink in the ordinary kitchen.” |
| He explained the regions of Geor
gia and Florida where sinks are
prevalent are underlaid with for
| mations of limestone rock which is,
| itself, insoluble in water,
! In the stadium project here, 18,-
1000 cubic yards of dirt have al
fready been removed, leaving appro
[ ximately 2,000 cubie yvards more to

Here, in a picture it might be
well not to show the children
just before bedtime, is that
screen Adonis, Victor McLaglen,
whose work in gthe highly
praised film, “The Informer,”
has heen classed as one of the
best performances of 1935. His
splendid characterization of
the furtive Sinn Feiner whose
“squeal” resulted in police ex
ecution of his best pal is hinted
above. 5
