WINTER IS TIME TO
BUY NEW AUTO
3 R
Present-day driving conditions
and the tremendous mechanical
advances of;‘;the past few years
make a new car a more desirable
purchase for winter use than for
easy summer driving, points out
A, W, L., Gilpin, .wice president
and general sales manager of the
Pontiac Motor Company.
Particularly is this true from
the safety standpoint, Mr, Gilpin
declares, although moving the au
tomobile show from January up
to November brings other favora- |
ble factors into the picture. |
“From the standpoint of safety,l
comfort and health, a new car of
fers many .advantages Zor wintel
driving,” he states. “For exam
ple: @iy
“Tires. New “cars have new
tires with new treads which will
hold the road under adverse con
ditions, whereas the old car with
worn tread is subject to skids orn
iey roads and it likely to spin and
lose traction in slush or mud.
“Steering. New cars with mod
ern springing such as knee action
will hold the -road myuch more
safety and steadily and surely
than cars with the old type of
suspension. !
“Starting. Once the bane ot
winter driving, 'starting is ne
longer a winter problem. Tests
have disclosed that our cars wili
gtart at zero in ten seconds flat
No steaming out of the motor
with hot water and blankets, o
draining of the battery trying i
get going.
“Stalling. Today’s big, power
ful engines will pull through slush
or mud or snow without motor
strain or danger of stalling or
boiling over.
“Braking. Triple-sealed hydrau
lic brakes keep out every particle
of foreign matter and operate ef
ficiently even after a full day's
drive over the worst roads, while
the old or unshieléed brake, when
a chunk of snow gets between
drum and band, go out of equali
zation, inviting dangerous skids.
“New solid-steel turret bodies
are not only the safest type ol
construction knewn, but tests
show them to be warmer in win
ter than the old type bodies.
“Np draft ventjlation, :aid to be¢
the biggest single contribution tc
the health and comifort of passen
gers in a decade, protects the
driver and his family from cold
unhealthy air currents while per
mitting necessary ventilation to
prevent windshield fogging, etc.
“Similarly, complete body insu
lation keeps out all drafts such
als enfer through loosely fitting
doors and windows and incom
pletely insulated floor boards of
old cars.
“A completely sealed chassis
keeps out all foreign matter from
moving parts. g
“These are only a few. of the
main points in favor of the new
car for winter. People who hesi
tate to buy now say they want 8
new car at the beginning of the
spring season. They drive slower,
and less, in’'winter than in sum
mer. A car bought mow will be
just mnicely broken in during the
next six months. The new duco
finishes won't. lose their tone oi
luster in snow or sleet storms or
splashing mud. The sealing pro
tects brakes and chassis. |
“The fact is engineers no long
er design a car for the boulevards i
except for appearance. They build
them for the worst possible con
ditions the cars may be called
upon to meet. ~ Such conditions
exist in the winter. We may truly
call today’s new car primarily a
winter car, ideal for winter driv-

The Spirit Count
We are justly proud of the scientific
skill and experience of our staff. But
more gratifying is the spirit, friendly
and courteous, that they sho when
called to serve. The spirit behind a
funeral establishment, we feel, means
just as much as its efficiency. Possibly,
it counts just a little bit more.
