Blind Stars Give Seeing
Brothers Close Match in
New York Last Night
BY ANDY CLARKE
(Associated Press Sports Wiriter)
NEW YORK — (#) — Five blind
bowlers competed with their see.
ing brothers last night and lost. |
The wunigque match was held in
the basement of the Community
Center of the New York Guild for
the Jewish blind, the blind youths
using an iron rail to get their
bearings before firing the big ball,
With a handicap of 100 pins they
lost 670 to 654 but if enthusiasm
iwaa»the measure of success they
‘would have won in a rout, It was
the World Sertes and the Rose
‘Buwl game rolled into one for these
unfortunates who have never seen
}u two-base hit or a halfback iug
the ball.
| .l;v Maior was listed as the star
of the blind team but he didn’t live
up to expectations. He complain
iud that “the nervous tension got
me,” i
! Joe claims the world record for
, totally blind bowlers. 223, rolled
:three years ago.
! Herbert Holmes, another member
{uf the team, claimed he once rolled

plenty of time in guaging his rolls
!As he took his steps before releas
ing the ball his hand pointed di
rectly down at the alley.
As the blind bowlers were going
down to defeat in the basement.
however, their brotherg were doing
better with sighted competitors up

Game Will Start at Eight

;
One of the South's strongest col- |
lege basketball teamg will invade
Woodruff kall tonight, and u.!-i
tempt to take the measure of the]
Georgia Bulldogs, in next to the|
final home appearance of the (}eor-;
gia team this season. :
Clemson, always a strong court
organization, will be the Georgial
opponents tonight, and these bit-|
ter rivalg are sure to stage an ex- |
citing show, but Clemson must be|
yated a favorite in the contest. The |
South Carolina team always is a|
threat to Southeastern t:unfm'r‘nrol
quintets, and one of the main <-nn-f
tenderg for the Southern crown, |
Georgia, fighting for a berth in|
the Southeastern conference tnurn-i
ament, will not be affected either |
way by the outcome of tonight's |
struggie, but the Bulldog’s m'osti;:ei
would mount mighty high if a vio-ll
tory over the Tigers cold be scor- |
ed. |
For the past few weeks, (:m.rgiu:
has been playing great basketball, |
and unless the team collapses against t
ity next three conference foes, Al:l-i
abma, Auburn and Georgia Tech,
it is sure to get into the (:(mfer-‘
ence at Knoxville.
Addition of Lee Richards, study
forward from Decatur, to the line
up, has been like a tonic to the
Bulldogs, it seems, The husky lad
is one of the smoothest players to
don a Bulldog uniform in years,
and his accurate passing is a great
asset,
tichards is not guch an offensive |
threat other than his passes can!
always be counted to be true, and
he much prefers to “feed” the ball
to his teamates, and let hem get
the points. " i
The gtocky Frank Johnson is the
real threat of Georgia’'s team, and
at present is the highest scorer in
the Southeastern conference, John-
Won hias been the star of every game
that <ieorgla has played this year,
and in addition to being the out
gtanding ‘“point getter,” Johnson is
an excellent floor man,
Coach Rex Enright will probably
gtart Johnson and Richards at for
wards, Farren at center, and And
erson and Harman at guards in thei
battle tonight. Olin Thompson,
glender guard from Macon, will seol
plenty of service, as will Charley |
Harrold, also of Macon, at center,i
and little Jimmy Moore, forward.
The game will get underway at Rl
o'clock, with admission tbeing 50
