on Monday, on the staze. of the
Palace theater, the first show be
ginning about noon, Manager A. D.
Robertson has announced.

Manager Robertson has pointed
out that Athens is the first small
town to be playved by a Majior
Bowes troup and the fact that the
agee unit js being sent here means
that standing room will be 8
premium: for' each of the five
shows to be given here.
The day that Major Bowes dis
caoveries come to Athens, this city
will be the mecca for- hundreds
from all the surrounding section
and, of course, billing of future

And here's the mayor's official
proclamation:
“Office of Mayor, City of Athens,
“February 8 1936.
“Whereas, it has come to my
attention that gn the 17th day of
February, Unit No 2 of Major
Edward Bowes' Amateurs, will
appear in Athens, in person, on
the stage of the Palace theater,
and
“Whereas, this same Unit No. 2
I 8 composed of some of the most
interesting and versatile talent in
the world, who won places in
this unit in competition with the
best amateur talent available in
tnis great country, and
“Whereas, distincet honopr is bhe-~
ing paid the ecity of Athens by
Major Edward Bowesg in sending
his best troup to this eity, and
“Whereas, he further honors
Athens by making it one of the
very first of the smaller ecitles to
be host to any of his troups, and
“Whereas, the same Major Ed
wiard Bowes has become a world
citizen through his great work in
dis covering hidden talent and
giving it a chanece hitherto denied
it; through the joy and pleasure
heh as brought to untold millions
by his weekly programs; through
surcease from pain he has given
the bedridden and the young and
the aged; and has brought renew
ed hope and self-respect to many
n the ranks of the unemployed:;
and finally, has vyindicated the
claim of America® that in this great
country the chance for health
wealth and happiness shall be
