Supplies Gently Acting “Bulk”
to Aid Regular Habits
Now and then, in talking with
wour friends, the subject of bran has
come up. So that real facts might
replace unsupported opinions, the
Kellogg Company has aided for
some years research in leading
nutrition laboratories. |
Studies made on a group of
healthy women showed that two
tablespoonfuls of bran daily con
tinued to relieve cunstipation* over
a period of months. How different

other series of tests on men in
flicated that, with some people, the
“bulk” in bran was much more
effective than that found in fruits
and vegetables.
Further tests showed that Kel
logg’s ALL-BRAN provided vitamin
B and iron as well as “bulk.”
This “bulk” absorbs moisture, and
g;xgtly exercises and cleanses the
stem —the right way to correct
constipation.

It was ‘Senator Vandenberg, Re«
publican, Michigan, who asked the
wide investigation of reports that
politicians collect campaign funds
from workers on relief,
Previously, he had asked Admin
istrator Harry L. Hopkins, to look
into reportz that the Democratic
county committee in Indiana Coun
ty,, Pa., was calling on Works Pro
gress administration employes for
funds.
Declaring he could not be respon
sible for “dumb politicians” who
write letters to WPA people, Hop
kins replied:
“The politician who asked for
the contributions was told in words
of one syllable that our staff was
under no obligation to contribute,
and that their jobs would be fully
protected in case they did not con
tribute.” i
l Conceding that ‘‘the matter or
discipline is out of” Hopkins’' hands
and declaring that ‘‘the political
branch of the government is res
ponaible,” Vandenberg said “it wib
take more than a bulletin from
WPA headquarters and more than

Another development connectéa

the recent removal of Major Gen

lcomplaint from Hopkins' office
|about thé general,
After Hagood told a house com

“stage money,” a Hopkine assist

subsequently was removed from
command, The WPA letter was

After Week’s Layoff
Work on interior repairing and
painting ot_ Clarke county court
house was resumed this mrrning
by WPA, after a week's layoff he
éause of lack of funas for the pro
ject. ; :
The work to be done on the
court house is expected to require
more than two months, WPA em
ployes have been working for the
past four months, installing new
plumbing, cleaning walls, painting
all offices, and plastering parts of
the court pouse.
Last week it was necessary for
the work to be stopped temporarily
because funds of the project had
exhausted, FEvidently the federal
government has supplied money to
continue the work, for once again
the sound of hammers and the
swish of paint brushes echces
throughout the building.
