“The meeting held by Salonia
Chapter No. 227, 0. E. S., Monday
evening, May 4th, was one of the
most colorful, beautiful and touch
ing of the entire year. Mrs. Mar
cia Jewett, Rossville, worthy
grand matron, was honor guest on
this oceasion.
Each officer had invited an out
of-town friend to occupy their
station during the evening and
executed a lovely march in cou
ples prior to assuming their sta

ter were introduced and presented
dainty little floral plagues.from
the worthy matron, by Mrs, Vera
Murray, and Mrs. Taylor sang to
them, “That's What God Made
Mothers For."”

The American Legion Cabin
presented g, picturesque scene
Friday night ,the notable occasion
being a brilliant dance at which
Miss Dorothy Daniel was the
charming young hostess, enter
taining in honor of two popular
vigitors, Misses May Smith and
Bobbie Kimbell of Winder, Ga.
The dance was a backward af
fair, and during the evening there
were four no-breaks. The Georgia
Collegians orchestra furnished the
music. During the evening dainty
refreshments were served.
Chaperones for the occasion
were Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Dan
iel, parents of the hostess; Mr.
and Mrs. J. N. Hartford, Mr. and
Mrs. H. P. Williams, and Mr.

most interesting talk on Electa,
after which the lights were low
ered and the officers of Salonia
Chapter, bearing lighted tapers,
formed a cross. Mrs. Lavert
Mitchell of Oakland City Chapter
No. 260, Atlanta, prominent radia
artist, accompanied by Mrs. Mar
garet Crane, sang “Must Jesus
Bear the Cross Alone.”
Mrs. Norma Keener, in costume,
portraying one of the Biblical!
characters, next appeared in the}
setting, after which Miss Virginia
Dillard sang, “Tell Them of
Electa., |
Mrs. Hattie Elder on behalf of
the worthy matron, resented two
of the officers, Mrs. Ethel Haynes
and Mrs. Tleese Bruce with
birthday gifts.
Mrs. John Taylor sang a lovely
song, dedicated to the grand ma
tron, Mrs. Jewett, to the tune of
“The Sweetest Story Ever Told,”
after which the grand matron
had Mrs. Breedlove escorted to
the altar, and as a complete sur
prise to everyone, announced she
had had the pleasure of appoint
ing Mrs. Breedlove as grand
Electa of the Grand Chapter of
Georgia, O. E. 8, and proceeded
with the installation, assisted by
Mrs. Pauline Dillon, as grandg
marshal: Mrs. Geneva Foddrill,
grand chaplain; and Mrs. Marga
ret Crane, as grand organist. This
ceremony came as a fitting eli
max to the evening for the worthy
matron to be appointed “Grand
Electa” on the occasion when the
chapter was observing Electa
night. Mrs., Lavert Mitchell at
this time sang “Only a Rose.”
Thomas L. Elder, past patron,
was also appointed grand escort
by the worthy grand matron and
remembered with a gift from the
chapter.
The meeting was closed by Mrs.
Breedlove singing “Evening
Prayer.”
Over 150 guests were present,
including 11 present worthy ma
trons and worthy patrons of vari
ous chapters in the state, 33 past
matrons and patrons of other
chapters, six grand instructors,
three grand representatvies, and
rine pages and escorts.

member of the chapter.

completion and Wickersham Lodge,
the dream of the Business Girls!
club, will be completed in the next |
few weeks.

Athens girle and the huilding of
the new Business Girls clubhouse
can be attributed greatly to the
untiring efforts of Miss Lucile
Crabiree, genera] secretary of the
Athéng Y. W. €. Al Bha el
striveqd during her two years here
to put the girls organizations of
Athens, especially the Y. W, C. A.
on the map, and she is now being
rewarded with wonderful success.
Mrs. Lois Kinney is club presi
dent and Miss Lolg Etheridge,
chairman of tHe building commit
tee.
The new Wickersham TLodge,
which has been a dream for many
yvears, will be one of the most at
tractive club homeg for girls in
thig section of the state. The lodgze
is built of pine logs, which have
peen very neatly placed together.
The roof, g green composition,
'stands out beautifully among the
natural pines which surround the
lgrounds. The large chimney is
made of rock and addg much to
the attractiveness of the lodge.
One of the outstanding beauty
features of the new lodge is the
native shrubbery which has been
planted around the grounds. Dog
.wood, one of the South's prides in
shrubbery, is now growing well in
the yards. Cedars, pines and nu
meroug other wild life of beauty

Misg Crabtree, possessor a charm
ing personality, has lived here
only & little more than two years,
but the work she is doing, what
‘she hasg done and will continue to

program was presented by Mrs
Carl Saye at a recent meeting nf‘
the American Legion auxiliary of
the Allen R, Fleming, jr., Post.
Tender memorieg and loving in
terest always center around this
hollowed day and the tributes
by Mrs. Saye on this afternoon
were very touching and beautiful.
Mrs. J, B. Joel, president of the
auxiliary, graciously presided a
the meeting. Plans were discussed
for the coming state convention to
be held in June, Mrs. Joel urgea
that all members attend the con
vention and make this meeting a
memorable one,
Committees were appointed for
the Boy Scout drive and for Poppy
Day. Poppy Day is especially In
teresting to this unit as the origi
nator of the day, Miss Moina Mich
ael, is a member of this auxiliary.
