| Of Health in Test
The University of Georgia, in al
cooperative effort with the State
department of health to combat
tuberculosis which in the last two
jyears has accounted for more than
i 2,500 deaths in the state, is giving
tuberculin tests to the' students..
The tests are being conducted by
Dr. Loree Florence, speecial assist
ant college physician.
Stressing -the fact that the av
erage college age group, from 16
to 25, is the most important from
a standpoint of danger from this
prevalent disease, Dr. Florence
says: “It is our ultimate aim to
discover and check early cases.
It is therefore necessary that ev
ery student—not merely those of
certain - grouns—be tested.” o
After the initial tests, everyl:
tuberculin reactor will be required’i
to have an X-ray made, the cost |
of which will be the actual cost of
the film, 75 cents each. On Nov. |,
12-18. Dr. H. C. Sechenck, chief
of the division of tuberctlosis con
trol for Georgia, will come to Ath- }'
ens to make the X-rays. Dr.‘l‘
iFlorence hopes to have a large!
tnumber of the preliminary tostsl
by that time. So far 800 have|
heen completed.
Similar tuberenlin tests have |
been made annually at Yale, the
'niversity of Pennsylvania, the
ATniversity of Minnesota, the Uni-i
‘versity of California, and others|
for several years. They are, how- |
ever, an innovation at The Unl-l
versity of Georgia. l
‘Referring to the imnortance 0”
these precautionary measures Dr.
Florence says: \
