Bradberry Wanted in
Oconee For Murder
(Continuea Brom Page One)
‘Bradberry’s pardoned,
The letter further states that
there “is no detainer in our of—’
fice ordering that the boys be;
turned over to Oconee county for |
trial on other indictments. Your'
letter written since the pardon
was granted f{s the first notice
we have had of the indictments.”
However, in Solicitor West'sl
files is a copy of 5 letter of No-l
vember 6 to the Prison Commis
sion which states that one reasonl
he objécted to a pardon being'
granted was that it would neces
sitate another trial for the murder"
of Elder's wife, adding that much
more expense on Oconee county., |
‘When asked by a Banner-Her
ald reporter this morning whether
or not the Bradberry’'s would be
tried in Oconee Superior court in
January, Mr. West said he could
not say. ‘
“We don’t even know where thel‘
{boys are. They should have been
turned over to us by the Prison
,Commisslon. but instead they were |
i discharged from their respective|
| prison camps, and have not been
I heard of since,” the solicitor said.
{ The two youths were sentenced
{to die in the electric chair in
t 193¢ for murdering Elder but Gov
{ernor L. G. Hardman commuted
E‘the sentences to life Imprison-|
i] ment, !
{ Separate indictments were re
turned by the grand jury that
| year charging the boys with murs
dering Elder's wife, but the case
was not brought up then, for cer
ltain reasons Solicitor West re-
"tused to give out, ,
| Elder was killed after being
called out by the two boys who
said their automobile haq broken'
down and they needed aid. It is:
alleged they beat him to death andi
then returned to the house and
killed the woman, because she had’
seen the whole proceedings. }
