City Employes Given

Salaries in Advance
All eity employes will be paid
their full salary for December to
morrow, or else they got it Satur
day, according to Mayor T. S.
Mell, who said the finance com
mittee finally arranged to pay the
salaries in advance.
It has been an annual custom
of the city to pay sazlaries on the
20th of December for the entire
month. IFiremen and policemen
got their money yesterday, and
others will be paid Monday. Today

nounces Athens Staff to
GCet Christmas Bonus
Announcement was made yester
day by the manager of the local
J. C. Penney company store, V. W,
McGwier, that the associates or
thig store will share in a Christ
mas bonus. The Penney company
recently authorized an extra pay
ment for over twenty-five thous
and associates in all stores, offices
and warehouses, ‘All regular em
ployeeg who have been with the
company over a Yyear will receive
two weeks’ extra pay. Those em
ployed for shorter periods will re
ceive proportionate amounts. |
In the announcement of the plan,
E. C. Sams, president of the com
pany, said, “The year 1936 has
been the most successful in the
history of our business. The as
sociates have contributed largely
to that success. This bonus is not
a bonus of any permanent plan—
‘t is additional 1936 remuneration
for loyalty and service that have
played a part in making this the
greatest year for the Penney com
pany.”
In the Athens store some gixteen
associates will share in this bonus.
These include Ted McAbee, John
Perkerson, Miss Woodie Short, Mrs.
W. N. Cosby, Mrs. Hoyt Brown,
