Development Board
Announces New
Georgia Industries
Establishment of three new
local industries to be located at
"Canton and Sandersville was an
nounceq today by the Industry
Pane] of the Agricultural and In
dustrial Development Board.
l The new industries are a plant
to manufacture porch furniture
‘at Canton and a work plant
‘and clay treating works at San
‘ldersville. Announcement of these
three new local'industries is made
by W. C. Cram, jr., director of
the Industry Pane] of the Board |
who also said that “we have in
quiries today from a tannery,
men’s shirts, neckties, pajamas,
and underwear manufacturers as
}well as a ladies’ lingerie and a
‘shoe manufacturer.” .
Director Cram also announced
the Industry Panel has shown
representatives of several of the
‘above industries through Geor
gia, visiting communities asking
for such industres. He said that
in most instances the principal
cause of delay in immediate
opening of plants is lack of prop
‘er housing-Tacilities.
~ The Industry Panel has found,
‘Mr. Cram said, that outside in
‘dustries planning to locate in
‘Georgia are interested in the fol
lowing:
1. Moral support from the citi
zeng of the town in which they
locate.
2. An attractive community
with churches, theaters and hos
pitals.
3. A local supply of f{riendly
labor; and
4 A location with a building
immediately available..
Mr. Cram said that the pro
gram to promote new industries
in Georgia, launched by the De.
velopment Board, is being car
ried on through the Industry
Pane] and industrial surveys con
ducted by Prof. H. E. Dennison
of (feorgia Teeh and his staff of
industrial engineers and by a--
tive industrial committees
one-half of Georgia commursties
with more than 500 population.
He said that nearly 80 per cent
of the industry questionnaries
the Board is asking local com
munities to fill out have beep re
ceived at the office of the Pane].
